Cayuga Lake Anglers are getting out on the north end, but ice thickness varies greatly in that area so use extreme caution if heading out. Some Yellow Perch are being caught, along with some Chain Pickerel. Anglers fishing from shore around Taughannock are getting Lake Trout. A couple of events taking place this weekend to celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day are the Salmon River Fish Hatchery Open House and the Honeywell Sportsmen's Days at Carpenters Brook Fish Hatchery, an Onondaga County hatchery. Remember ice thickness can vary greatly, even on the same water, so use extreme caution and your own good judgment if deciding to venture out. Some safety measures to follow are: use a spud and check ice thickness as you venture out, fish with a friend, bring a rope and ice safety picks (two handles with spike points). We are in the “in-between” period with too much ice around to get the boat out, and not enough to ice fish on. So, there is no information to report this week.
