Lake Ontario report: The forecast over the next few days is calling for a definite change in the weather. Temperatures are expected to only be in the 60s over the weekend. With this change look for increased action in more shallow depths, 80-100+ feet of water. There has still been activity in 200-500 feet. Flasher/fly combinations have been the bait of choice. Lake Ontario report: The wind has been an issue at times again this week. Yesterday’s cold front has brought in some refreshing cooler temperatures. Remember the Lake Ontario Counties (LOC) derby runs through the weekend and ends at 1 p.m. on Labor Day! According to Capt. Andy Bliss of Chasin’ Tail Adventures: The large staging kings have finally come home! Fishing remains incredible. Flasher/fly combos have started to take over as the presentation of choice. You can find fish from 100-600’; if you’re not catching…move! Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  4. This report courtesy of the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning. This report was written on August 28, 2018. Lake Ontario report: The lake fishing continues to be very good. The wind was a bit of an issue over the weekend as it moved the fish around but most anglers succeeded in finding them. After a few cooler days, the heat and humidity have returned until Thursday when temperatures will become more seasonable. The best concentration of salmon has been in 250-500 feet of water recently with some nice ones taken in 300-350 feet of water. Flies/flashers, spoons and meat rigs are working well. Brown trout are active in 40-80 feet of water. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.

  7. This report courtesy of the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning. This report was written on August 13, 2018. Lake Ontario report: According to Capt. Troy Creasy of High Adventure Sportfishing: The hard northeast wind definitely stirred up the big pond this weekend but the kings did not go far. They go out, they go in, they go deep but they definitely move around and get finicky under those conditions. Nevertheless the bite is still good. You just have to work a little harder. 8. This report courtesy of the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning. This report was written on August 9, 2018. Lake Ontario report: Anglers are continuing to find good fishing on the lake. Kings and a few trout have been active in a range of water depths from 100 to 500 feet. Just this week a couple of nice 30+ pound salmon have been reported. Cut-bait, flashers and flies, and spoons have been working well. According to Capt. Troy Creasy of High Adventure Sportfishing: A big sloppy northwest chop plagued us throughout the day making conditions less than pleasant. The fish still wanted to chew and all our clients were very happy. Oswego River report: The water level had been running between 1,000-2,000cfs over the last couple of days. Due to some rainfall in the region, the flow reached over 3,000cfs early today but is down to 2,610cfs late this morning. Anglers are finding a few walleye, bass, sheepshead and a catfish or two along the river. Notice: The bridge to Leto Island is closed, and there are mandatory personal flotation device (PFD) zones on the river. For more information, view the Brookfield Varick Fish Safely Brochure below. The Oswego Fire Department offers loaner life jackets at no charge through its “Loaner for Life” program. For more information contact the fire station, 35 E. Cayuga St., at 315-343-2161. Troy Creasy of High Adventure Sportfishfing: We had heavy seas on the big pond yesterday but the fish didn’t seem to care. The bite was on from beginning to end. The bite has been steady and the afternoons have been as good or better than the mornings most days. We are finding kings and a few trout from 100 feet out to 500 feet. Not a ton of adults but three great year classes of fish, a good sign for next season as well. Trolling meat behind a pro troll flashers with Atommik meat rigs are taking the bulk of our bites. 10. This report courtesy of the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning. This report was written on July 26, 2018. Lake Ontario report: According to Capt. Andy Bliss of Chasin’ Tail Adventures: After the recent southern blow the salmon fishing has been very scattered. But as of yesterday afternoon things are starting to set back up. Kings have been found in 50-700’ just not in any concentration. What this blow did do is create some great brown trout fishing in 20-50 feet of water from Oswego to the Little Salmon River. Oswego River report: The water level had been averaging around 1,000cfs for several days. With the recent heavy rain in the region, the flow has risen to 5,970cfs this morning. Anglers have been finding a number of walleye fishing at night although most of them are small. A few bass, sheepshead and a catfish or two have also been taken. 11. This report courtesy of the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning. This report was written on July 19, 2018. Lake Ontario report: According to Capt. Troy Creasy of High Adventure Sportfishing Charters: The great fishing on Lake Ontario continues. It might not be the bloodbath for everybody that we had over the last two months but we were spoiled and it is still very good. The nice thing is they are spread out east to west and north to south and on any given day you can catch multiple species. The deep water is giving up plenty of chinooks and a few ironheads mixed in, and if you stay in the short water, the kings and browns have been plentiful. You can also throw in a couple bonus lake trout and steelhead as well. The spoon bite continues to be good especially early in the day, but as the sun gets high and the chinooks move a little deeper meat and atomik flies are taking most of our bites.
