  1. This report courtesy of the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning. This report was written on January 18, 2018. Oswego River report With the rain and snow melt that we had during the warm weather last week, the river rose to over 20,000cfs. It is currently running at 13,800cfs. The flow makes it difficult to fish along the river. Once the frozen sections of the river broke up, driftboats were able to access the water for a day or so with some nice catches. Then we had high water and not much activity. Warmer temperatures are expected over the next few days with some rain in the forecast so we will have to keep an eye on the water level. 2. This report courtesy of the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning. Oswego River report The river flow has generally been running between 4,000-5,000cfs over the last few days. However it has spiked to 8,330cfs since this morning. We have finally broken out of the frigid temperatures with 30 to 40+ degrees expected this week. There has not been much to report from the river. Much of the river from the dam down toward the Utica St. bridge had been frozen over as well as areas toward the hotels. With the warmer temperatures this has started to break up. The weather has been harsh this week with cold temperatures, bitter wind chills and more snow. There has not been much to report from the river. Temperatures will be extremely cold through Saturday but the forecast is showing some moderation as we go into early next week. As this happens look for steelhead and rainbows throughout the river. Fish are spread out from top to bottom and anglers in the Upper and Lower Fly Zones have been getting into a mix of kings and cohos with pale colored egg patterns. Black egg sucking leeches with a pink or chartreuse head as well as brown or olive woolly buggers have also been producing steady results. Active areas have been the Ballpark, Town Pool, Longbridge/Staircase and the Black Hole. Anglers have reported that the salmon are spawning in the gravel areas of the mid to upper section of the river. Just a reminder that if you’re in town this week, the hatchery will begin collecting salmon eggs today. Oneida Lake report: Cooler temperatures are needed to see some good fall walleye fishing. Casting stickbaits from shore just before and after dark is a good application at this time of year. Look for perch in about 10-15 feet of water using minnows. Surface activity may indicate smallmouth bass that are feeding on gizzard shad. Stickbaits or using skein under a float are suggested applications along with smack beads and egg sacs. Stickbaits, smack beads and smack skein are working from the wall. According to Capt. Kevin Davis of Catch the Drift: It has been some tough fishing for this time of year with temperatures warmer than usual but we have had some nice catches. Bring on the rain, some wind and colder weather. Notice: The bridge to Leto Island is closed, and there are mandatory personal flotation device (PFD) zones on the river.
