  1. Streams-Maxwell Creek has a small opening to Lake Ontario and there are some trout and salmon entering the stream. It’s certainly not large and we need lots of rain to make any decent flow to the stream. Salmon Creek in Pultneyville has fish and Bear Creek in Ontario has a small run of trout and salmon. Egg sacs and bright beads are working. Because of low water in Lake Ontario and only trickles in the creeks, pier fishing is an option for stream fishing enthusiasts. Cast-out spoons. Acme Cleo has a dynamite Glow-Green spoon that has caught salmon and brown trout from the piers. The Sodus Bay channel is the largest, however Port Bay has a small channel and pier. Access is at the north end of West Port Bay Road. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  2. Streams- Maxwell hasn’t opened to the lake as of yesterday, so the trout and salmon are not in that creek. Bear Creek in Ontario, Salmon Creek in Pultneyville and Hughes’ Marina in Williamson all have fish. They are small tribs and access is limited, however there are spots to cast. Egg sacs…artificial or natural work. Anglers caught some salmon at the mouth of Port Bay, which is at the end of West Port Bay Road. They are casting out in the channel. You can also cast out in the Sodus Bay channel. Last night the winds were 30 to 35 mph out of the northwest, with gusts at 40 mph. Today they are 10 mph, so pier fishing should be good, although the water will be muddy. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  3. Lake Ontario- There are still some trollers out in the lake…just the smaller boats. The kings are still hitting in 200 feet of water if you still have a boat in the water. Streams- Maxwell Creek is still plugged-up at the mouth. Maybe Thursday’s predicted rain will be enough to open the creek. As soon as that happens, the kings and browns will be in Maxwell. Salmon Creek in Pultneyville has fish and Bear Creek in Ontario has kings and browns. Throw-out the egg sacs. Hughes’ Marina also has trout and salmon coming in the outlet. Pier fishing has also produced some nice kings; however, the Sodus Channel action can be hot or cold. It’s hard to predict. Cast out glow spoons or any other heavy spoon. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  4. Lake Ontario- Some charters are still trolling Lake Ontario waters for salmon, completing the best fishing in decades. Some two-year-old kings are coming from 300 to 400 feet of water. Last week the temps were 65 degrees on top and the same temperatures down to the bottom at 200 feet of water, so the kings were hard to find. Steelhead and browns are also being caught. The steelhead are 20 to 40 feet down over 300 feet. Pier fishing has been excellent with some matures coming from the Sodus Channel and the smaller Port Bay outlet. Cast out heavy spoons. The recent rainfall (today) might open the end of Maxwell Creek, so the kings, browns and steelies can enter. There have been some browns in Hughes Marina’s lagoons, which are connected to the lake. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  5. Lake Ontario- Lake fishing is just about over for the season…and what a year it was with great catches and healthy-looking trout and salmon. Hardly any lamprey marks. Currently the kings are staging in less than 100 feet of water and are hitting spoons and stickbaits. Some two-year-old kings have been in 200 feet of water. We need rain to open-up Maxwell Creek at the mouth and to produce a nice flow of water. October is the month to catch the browns which follow the kings up the streams. Egg sacs…real or artificial…are your best bets for catching browns. Pier fishing is another option. Use heavy spoons and cast out into the Sodus channel. Just be very careful. It’s not like you are standing and casting into two feet of water like Maxwell. The outlets are deep, and the current is flowing all the time. Be cautious…you don’t want to fall in the water. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  6. Lake Ontario- After the last north-east blow, things are settling down with the kings in 90 to 140 fow, down 50 to 60 feet. They have been hitting spoons and meat rigs off the riggers and wire. The immatures are bright silver, while the older kings are dark. There have been some browns caught at the same depth. All in all, the Lake Ontario fishery is seeing some of the best fishing in decades and it continues. Pier fishing is starting to pick-up with king catches and some steelhead also being netted in the Sodus Bay channel. You can cast out heavy spoons…Kastmasters and Little Cleos. Maxwell Creek is starting to flow, however there are no reports of trout and salmon catches. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  7. Lake Ontario- The LOC ended yesterday and although tournament action has slowed, the king bite hasn’t. A last minute 30 pounder hit the scales in Wayne County…placing 2nd place in the fall LOC. The kings still rule! If you want less boat traffic, now is the time to fish. The tourism crew went out Sunday shooting some video and caught four for seven, however didn’t make the leader board. The fish were in 110 to 140 feet of water, down 80 to 90 feet. The kings were hitting flasher flies, spoons and some cut bait. We were running an eight-rod spread and trolling between Hughes’ Marina and Sodus Bay. No lamprey bites on any of the kings. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  8. Lake Ontario- The king bite is still on; however, they have been scattered. The latest reports out of Sodus are they are hitting spoons and flasher flies from 200 to 450 feet of water. Riggers are down 80 to 100 feet. There have been plenty of two-year-old salmon caught, however the matures are also coming to the net. The spreads have been copper out 400 to 500 feet, dipsy’s and riggers. The spoons are Moonshine black and orange and glow, Stingers, and NK Mags. Charters have been fishing straight out from Hughes’ Marina, Sodus and Port Bays. A front is supposed to hit our area Wednesday, so watch the wind. Don’t forget the LOC Derby which runs until Monday, September 3rd. Prize structure and information is at loc.org. If you are fishing during that time frame, make sure you register. The awards ceremony will be at Jacks (Sodus Point) starting around 4 pm. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  9. Lake Ontario- The Wayne County Tourism office fished the Boy Scouts “Casting for Character” out of the Port of Rochester yesterday. The fundraiser featured 23 charter boats with 170 folks fishing for the scouts. The kings were in 325 to 500 fow which is ten miles from shore…a little further out than Wayne County’s 500 fow. Out of Sodus, the kings were hitting between 350 and 500, down 65 to 90 off the riggers. Spoons have really been working, with black and green dots especially attractive to the king bite. Cut bait and flasher flies are also working. The fishing has been fantastic, with a few slow days because of the south wind blowing the temperatures around. Today, the wind is at south-east and the next couple of days doesn’t look good for Lake Ontario fishing. This afternoon it’s supposed to start cranking with 15 to 20 mph and Wednesday is a definite blow-off day. Don’t forget the LOC Derby which runs until Monday, September 3rd. Prize structure and information is at loc.org If you are fishing during that timeframe, make sure you register. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  10. Lake Ontario- “Bout Time” from Fair Haven has a very detailed report from this past weekend, posted on the LOU board. They were probably close to Wayne County waters, so we’ll use it. Here it is…. Fished 530 -11 Saturday morning with a crew from camp. We ended the day 9 - 13. We hit 3 fish in tight (100-120’) first thing in the morning then things dried up. I pushed out to deeper waters and we hit them solid from 270-350’. We had constant action with 3 doubles and multiple singles Every rod fired in my spread. Riggers down 65/78/88/90. Dipsys set on “1” out 220/240/260/270 Dipsy on a “3” out 300/315/330 And 450 copper Green Jean, Carbon 14, Die Hard spoons Meat rigs behind green dot Spin Doctors, green Echips, and golden boy flashers Green dot paddles with hammer and stud flies. A great report. Pop-up thunderstorms are predicted all week so keep an eye on your radar. It just rained 4 inches from storms that came from the south east. 11. Lake Ontario- “Hot time, summer in the city, back of my neck getting dirty and gritty.” That’s the Lovin Spoonful’s take on summer. We call it Summer slamming salmon time, and the fishing continues to be the best in decades. Hit the water and leave the city because the fish are 25 pounds and they are hitting lake-wide. Straight out from Sodus Bay they are in 150 to 200 feet of water, down 70 feet. They have been hitting J-Plugs, spoons, and cut bait. The set-up has been riggers, wire, and some lead core. The temperature breaks have been around 80 feet, however that changes daily. Don’t forget the LOC Derby which starts August 17-September 3rd. The prize structure and information is at loc.org. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  12. Lake Ontario-It’s the last day of July and the salmon fishing is still fantastic. From the first troll in the spring till the last day of July…it’s been the best in decades. And it continues. Today there is a south breeze which will continue to push the temps around. The word from the charter fleet is to troll 180 to 250 feet of water, down 85 to 110. Just west of Sodus Bay has been productive, however the entire south shore of Lake Ontario is hot. Cut bait, flasher flies, and spoons are all working. Black spotted spoons have been especially attractive to hungry kings. Some cohos and steelhead have been caught straight out from Hughes’ Marina, however it’s the kings that are ruling. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  13. Lake Ontario- The strong winds from the Northeast not only canceled day two of the Pro-Am, they pushed the warmer water deep. Currently the good temperatures are in 400 to 500 feet of water. The lake flipped leaving 50 degrees closer to shore. The kings have been 80 to 100 down over the deep water of 500 feet. They have been hitting spoons, meat, and flasher flies. Fishing is still fantastic… you just need to do a little searching. Who knows what’s going to happen with the predicted hot weather and T storms later this week. Maybe things will settle down towards the weekend. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  14. Lake Ontario- It’s Sodus Pro-Am week and the fishing is fantastic so there will be some big kings coming to the weigh station on July 21-22. All the action will be at Sodus Point. There is still time to sign-up for Captain Jack’s Big Fish Friday. Registration forms are located at Captain Jack’s Goodtime Tavern at Sodus Point. You can also be a part of the IK a day during Pro-Am week. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  15. Oswego, Wayne, and Cayuga counties along with GS Steamers Bar & Grill of Oswego will sponsor a new style competitive fishing event. The Tri-County Salmon Slam coordinated by Oswego’s Tom Allen. This event entails weighing your seven biggest Salmon taken from these three counties, this out of a 15 day period spanning from July 4th to July 22nd. Anglers can weigh as many fish as they want daily or over the allotted time frame. Winners will split a total of $5,500.00. This event is run in conjunction with the LOC Derby, The Oswego Pro/Am and the Sodus Pro/Am. Sixty-five teams have entered and Allen’s expectations for this event's first year have been surpassed. Weigh stations consist of Krenzer Marine in Sodus, Screwy Louie’s in Fair Haven, two locations in Oswego at Gibby’s Irish Pub and Oswego Marina east side, also Woody’s Tackle of Port Ontario. Weigh station hours vary and are in line with these business's normal hours. So far many fish have come to the scales from various ports within these three counties…. entries are still being taken. For more information, call Allen at 315-402-9055 or email at [email protected].
  16. Lake Ontario- Salmon are becoming scattered…typical for the early July pattern. Off of Sodus Bay they have been between 90 and 200 feet, down 50 feet. That changes by the day and wind. Hughes’ Marina has weighed some nice browns for the LOC Summer Derby, so you can try for the bt’s straight-out from the marina. The kings are hitting mag spoons and cut bait off riggers and the wire. The LOC Derby runs until July 29th and the total pay-out, including all divisions is a cool $29,000 cash. There have been some reports that smallmouths are hitting in the lake. The perch are in 10 to 15 feet of water. You can catch them with small jigs tipped with spikes…just use your ice fishing lures. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  17. Lake Ontario-The 4th weekend will be very hot, however that won’t bother the salmon. Hot on the land is ok. It’ll be cool on the water and the winds are predicted to be calm. The bite continues. Straight out from Sodus Bay the kings have been hitting in 125 fow. Mag spoons with dark spots have worked well for charter captains. Off the wire back 250 feet has been a typical set-up, with kings between 10 and 25 pounds coming to the net. Flasher flies have also worked. Fifty feet down on the riggers is also catching big kings. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  18. Lake Ontario- New York State’s Free Fishing Weekend is this coming Saturday and Sunday. No license is needed to fish in New York waters. The king bite continues. The front that came through last night will change everything, especially with today’s northeast wind… Supposed to change to west later. Try 120 to 150 feet of water, straight out from both Hughes’ Marina and Sodus Bay. The kings were down 50 to 80 feet and they were hitting off the wire and riggers. Cut bait and flasher/flies were working, along with green spoons. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  19. Lake Ontario- Kings and some cohos have been caught in 150 to 200 feet, down 40 to 50. Reports say they are hitting spoons…all colors. The best results are from set-ups running back 150 feet or more. Lots of bait on some days, so changing colors and presentations might get more strikes. Bear Creek, Hughes, and straight out from Sodus Bay have been where most of the action is, however the entire southern shoreline of Lake Ontario has been hot. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  20. Lake Ontario-The spring kings are still hitting, from Hughes’ Marina and straight out from Sodus Bay. They have been in 150 to 180 fow down anywhere from 50 to 90 feet. Off the wire has been the best presentation this week, however riggers are also working. Green glow seems to be the best color. The kings are 10 to 15 pounds on average, although some nice 20 plus pounders are being netted. Lake trout are hitting cowbells and peanuts down 150 fow. The 2018 spring king bite continues!! Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  21. Lake Ontario-The king bite is phenomenal with spring fishing the best in decades. The browns are still close to shore, however everyone on the lake is targeting spring kings. Kings have been in 100 to 250 feet of water, down 50 to 70 feet. Straight out from Sodus Bay has been the “go to” location, however spring kings are being caught along the entire south shore of the lake. The basic set-up has been the same; riggers, boards, wire and lead core. Bright spoons have been catching most of the kings. Flasher flies have also filled the boxes. Straight out from Hughes’ Marina has also been a great place to start your troll. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  22. Happy Memorial Day Lake Ontario-The spring king bite is still on with some of the cleanest looking salmon being caught in years. The entire south shore of the lake has seen action. Off Sodus Bay, the depth has been 80 to 100 feet- straight-out- east or west. Green dots on any spoon seem to be the hot lure. The fish are really slamming lead line back 200 to 300 feet. Today’s surface temps in Wayne County are 48 to 50 degrees with some warmer pockets near Chimney Bluffs. The browns are close to shore; however, the mudlines have disappeared with the south wind. That’s why anglers are targeting kings in 100 feet. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  23. Lake Ontario- Thunderstorms came through the area during the day, however the wind didn’t end-up a problem. The browns are in 10 to 20 feet of water, but the action in Wayne County is spring kings. The fish are hitting in 90 to 100 feet of water straight out from Sodus Bay. The water temps are 48 to 49 on the surface. The kings are hitting, Hi Tech, Pirates, and Stingers with green dots being a hot one. The set-ups are off the wire, riggers and lead core running back 250 feet. The fish are bright silver and in excellent shape. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  24. Lake Ontario- The browns have been close to shore in 10 to 20 feet of water, the kings are in 40 and the lakers are in 100 fow. That’s the action occurring in the “Big O.” The temps are now running 48 to 50 degrees. Browns are hitting stickbaits and the lake trout are biting peanuts with cowbell attractors. Most of the charter captains from Sodus Bay are staying close to home port. There’s no need to run when the action is at home. LOC Derby action starts this Friday, May 11 and runs till May 20. Check out their web at www.loc.org/ for the prize structure. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  25. Lake Ontario- Once again lake anglers have been thwarted by winds. It’s an everyday happening. One day it blows from the north, the next it’s the south, and then west. And these are all 20 plus mph blows. Today it is flat, and yesterday’s blow has created some great mudlines. Browns are hitting along the shore in 8 feet of water. All stickbaits are working. There have been more spring kings caught this year. They are in 20 to 60 fow. Water temps today are 42 to 44 degrees. Some anglers were casting off the Sodus Point pier and there was one steelhead caught using a Kastmaster spoon. Bays- Bay fishing has been excellent with the perch bite continuing to be great. The perch are in Sodus Bay on the northwest section near Arney’s Marina. Bullheads are hitting off Bay Bridge at the south end of Sodus. The pike and walleye season starts the first Saturday in May, which is May 5th. Pike need to be 22 inches and you can keep three fish. You can keep three walleye and the minimum length is 18 inches. Those are Great Lakes regulations… which cover Wayne County waters… however, different bodies of water have different regs. Check out the rest of the Wayne County Tourism web page for the locations and hours of local bait and tackle shops. www.waynecountytourism.com. Erie Canal-The crappies are hitting under the Port Gibson bridge in the Widewaters section of the canal. You can also fish near the locks east of Newark and catch just about any fish.
