  1. Streams - Maxwell had a great flow yesterday and there were some anglers catching some hold-over steelhead, although most rainbows are now in the lake. You can still cast off the Sodus Bay pier for browns and steelhead. Use Kastmasters or Cleos. Lake Ontario - The lake finally calmed down after the relentless winds. One day it’s northeast, the next it’s west…then south and then east. Yesterday was calm and today’s south wind is not an issue for Lake Ontario anglers. The browns are hitting in 8 to 20 feet of water, anywhere along Wayne County's shoreline. Water temps today are 39 to 42 degrees. Charter captains are using stickbaits and the browns are running along the mudlines. There have been some kings caught in the mix of browns and steelhead. Near the power plant in Ontario has been a hotspot for browns. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  2. Streams- There are still steelhead in Maxwell Creek. Not sure if the latest rainfall will send them into the lake. Stream anglers are using egg sacs and beads. Fishing the Sodus Pier has been impossible with the constant gale-force wind. Today it’s cranking and tomorrow it might be a better chance to cast the pier. Lake Ontario-Lake conditions have been brutal, which is such a shame because the brown trout bite has been excellent. Last Tuesday was the last time the lake was flat. It’s like a broken record; Wed, blowing with 50 mph gust, Thursday still blowing. Over the weekend it was a north-east gale. When you do get out, use stickbaits and try to find warmer water, which will be difficult because of the constant wind. I guess the only positive point would be…mudlines should be everywhere. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  3. Don’t forget B-E Fishing Tackle’s Annual Spring Birthday sales happening Saturday and Sunday, April 14-15. The open house event is from 9 till 5 both days. There will be pro-staffers on hand and plenty of discounts on tons of “Fishing Stuff.” They are located at 6275 Dean Pkwy, Ontario, NY. Next to the windmill on Route 104. Streams- Anglers are still pulling steelhead out of Maxwell Creek. Temps are going to finally make it above 32 degrees this week, and the water level is excellent. Now is the time for some early spring rainbows. Lake Ontario- Some charters are already doing brown trout trips from Sodus Bay and Hughes’ Marina. Water temps are 37 to 39 degrees. There is an excellent mudline created by the latest blow we had on Wednesday and Thursday. If you can get out in the lake head east towards Chimney Bluffs or west past Maxwell Creek. You don’t have to go far to find browns. Fish in 10 to 15 feet of water. Stickbaits are working and spoons are not. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com. This report was written on April 10, 2018 by Chris Kenyon of Wolcott, NY, a regular columnist with the Finger Lakes Times, Sun and Record, Lake Ontario Outdoors and freelance writer with other publications, as well as Recreational Promotional Coordinator for Wayne County Tourism. 4. Streams- The trout opener for inland streams was Easter Sunday. Naples Creek was running high, however there were plenty of rainbows caught, although it was a challenge for many anglers. An 8.8 lb. trout won the Naples Rotary Trout Derby. But we are talking Wayne County where the season never closes. Maxwell still has steelhead and they're hitting egg sacs and beads. The streams are not running as high as last week…we’ll see what rain comes our way the next few days. Lake Ontario- The brown trout action is ferocious with catch rates in the teens and twenties for half-day trips. Fish out of Sodus and head east or west. Near Pultneyville the bt action is the best. If you have a smaller boat launch at Bear Creek. The trout are in 10 to 20 feet of water…real close to shore. Stickbaits are Rapala, Smithwick, and Bay Rats. Tomorrow’s blow will put an end to lake fishing for a few days, however wave action should create some fantastic mudlines. Water temps are currently 38 to 40 degrees. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  5. Streams- Steelhead are still in Maxwell Creek. There is rainfall today and if the temperatures get warmer they might enter the lake, however right now they are hitting bright beads and egg sacs. Both sides of Lake Road are productive. Anglers were also casting off the Sodus Bay pier, catching some browns. Some of the smaller boats have been catching browns out in the lake, trolling close to shore with planer boards. The charter fleet usually starts around April 1st. Bays-The crappies are still hitting at Bay Bridge at the south end of Sodus Bay. You can fish the open water behind Bay Bridge Sport Shop. It’s still early for the bullhead bite, however when they start hitting, the best place to fish is off the bridge. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  6. Streams- Spring time fishing in Maxwell Creek is hot. The steelhead are still in the tribs and are hitting egg sacs. The water flow is perfect on both sides of Lake Road. If there is no ice on the pier at Sodus Point, you can catch steelies and browns casting in the channel. Just use caution. You do not want to slip off the pier into the channel. Bays-The crappies are hitting at Bay Bridge at the south end of Sodus Bay. You can fish the open water behind Bay Bridge Sport Shop. It’s still early for the bullhead bite, however when they start hitting, the best place to fish is off the bridge. They are catching perch from the north shore of Port Bay…just watch out if you drive the bumpy barrier road. You can also launch at Port Bay at the south end and catch crappies half-way up the narrows. Crappies are suspended and will hit small bright jigs tipped with spikes. Remember, there is a 25-fish regulation on crappies and they need to be at least 9 inches in length. You’ll need to wear a PFD and remember if you are dressing for cold weather, you’ll be extra heavy. Don’t take chances because hypothermia is quick and deadly. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  7. Streams- Maxwell Creek was producing some nice steelhead, however the predicted snow fall might make streamside fishing a little messy, but the fish don’t care. Use egg sacs and fish both sides of Lake Road. The slower water is on the north side. You can also fish the Lake Ontario shoreline if the winds are light…and that condition will change with the windy predictions. So, just wait-out the weather and target the steelies later this week. Bays- All the bays are open, and you can launch at the ramps on Sodus and Port Bay. The DEC docks are not in so be careful. Some anglers were out a few days ago catching perch in Sodus Bay. If the winds subside you can fish the Sodus Bay channel for browns. Cast Cleo’s or other heavy spoons into the channel. You can also throw a line in at Bay Bridge, on the south end of Sodus Bay. Anglers were catching perch from the north shore of Port Bay. Use caution if you drive on the barrier road. It’s very rough going. You’ll need to wear a PFD and remember if you are dressing for cold weather, you’ll be extra heavy. Don’t take chances because hypothermia is quick and deadly. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  8. Streams- Stream fishing is still producing steelhead. There is snow build-up on the shoreline of Maxwell, however that is melting fast. The water flow is perfect, and anglers are fishing both sides of Lake Road. The rainbows are hitting egg sacs and bright colored beads. Some hold over browns are still coming from the stream, but with the warming temps most are now out in the lake, roaming the shoreline of Wayne County waters. April 1st is of course the harbinger of spring for stream fishing, however any tributary that flows into the lake has no closed season for trout. Bays- Port Bay has open water on most of the bay with ice still on the south end. You can launch at the north…but beware… it’s a very bumpy road to the DEC launch. If you don’t have a boat, you can catch perch fishing from the shore. There are enough pull-over spots, so you don’t block the barrier road. Sodus Bay has the same situation. Most of the bay is open, however there are a few iced-over spots. The perch don’t really care if there’s no ice, so do some open water fishing. Some anglers were casting off Bay Bridge at the south end. They were catching crappies. It’s early for bullhead fishing, however we are already in the second week of March. It won’t be long before you’ll be eating bullheads for supper. DEC won’t have docks near their ramps so launching will be an effort. You’ll need to wear a PFD and remember if you are dressing for cold weather, you’ll be extra heavy. Don’t take chances because hypothermia is quick and deadly. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  9. Streams- The steelhead are in Maxwell Creek and hitting egg sacs. The water flow today is perfect, and you can fish both sides of Lake Road. Hughes’ Marina is another place to try and catch some hold-over browns. Currently you can cast Cleos off the Sodus Pier. The pier will ice over quickly if the temps drop and the wind picks-up. If there is no ice (like today) you can catch steelies in the channel. Bays- The ice cometh and the ice goeth away. This season goes on record for the best perch fishing in decades, however it’s over. None of the bays have safe ice, so don’t even think about dragging a shanty on what ice there is… it will be slush tomorrow. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  10. Streams - Stream fishing was great this past weekend with steelies coming from Maxwell Creek. Rainfall won’t be as bad as predicted, however the streams will be flowing. The best place for Maxwell might be the northern section where the current is slower. There is plenty of parking on both sides of Lake Road. Egg sacs are the best presentation for the steelhead. Bays - Sodus Bay has 8 to 10 inches of ice, however temps in the 60s plus rain will eat away solid ice. Stay away from the creeks and don’t even try to fish near open water near the loop. The south end is still safe… but again… that can change quickly. If you are not confident about where you haul your shanty, don’t fish. Breaking through ice can be a major problem and often fatal for ice anglers. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  11. Streams- The steelhead are hitting in Maxwell Creek. The creek is open, however there is shoreline ice. Maxwell is only a two-mile stream and not as wide as the Salmon River…so it does freeze over. Steelhead are hitting egg sacs and beads. Use anything that’s bright. Bays- Bay fishing continues to be hot with 12 to 14-inch perch coming through the holes in Port and Sodus Bays. Beware of open water near the Sodus Point loop and anywhere close to the channel. Solid ice is running 10 to 12 inches thick at the south end of the bay, over on the east side and straight-out from Oak Park Marina. The perch are eating eyes on jigs or if they slow down on that presentation, use spikes on small jigs. Tip-downs with minnows are also catching the larger fish. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  12. Streams - Maxwell Creek still has a few openings and you can try your luck for steelhead. The snow predicted for tomorrow will not plug the stream and warmer weather is predicted for later this week. Use egg sacs or bright beads for the steelies. Bays - The fishing continues to be excellent at Sodus Bay with the other bays in the county doing fair for pulling perch through the ice. The perch have been caught in deeper water and the schooling big boys are in 30 to 40 feet in Sodus. The ice is 10 to 12 inches thick, however the Sodus Point loop area is open water all the way to the island. There were reports of ATV’s going through the ice so make sure you know where you’re going. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  13. Streams - Maxwell Creek was open this past weekend and some steelhead were being caught using egg sacs. Today the temps are in the 20’s so the creek might freeze over. Remember, the best steelhead fishing is right now if you can locate open water. Bays - The perch fishing continues to be the best in decades with Sodus Bay being the hot spot. Currently the fish are in deeper water around 30 to 40 feet. You can find the perch near Katlynn Marine (old trestle) at the Sodus Point Loop and by Second Creek, which is on Shaker Heights Road. Try larger jigs for the perch. Swedish Pimples work well. The ice is around 10 inches thick…just use caution where the different creeks enter the bay. They’re also catching some nice pike near LeRoy Island on the east side of Sodus. The pike are hitting minnows. The action at Port Bay has slowed. The 13-inch perch are in the bay, it’s just more difficult to catch them. The south DEC Road to Port Bay is open, however that can change with any significant snow fall. Remember, as ice anglers you are visiting the bays, so don’t trespass on land where you don’t have permission to park. And don’t leave stuff on the ice, like propane tanks. The word is that there have been parking issues and litter left behind near the loop at Sodus Point. Make sure you respect where you are because the hospitality given to ice anglers can end quickly. Wayne County has an ice fishing guide which gives you the basics of fishing on our bays. Contact the tourism office if you would like the brochure. Erie Canal - Anglers are ice fishing the Widewaters section of the canal and they’re catching crappies, bluegills and some perch. This report was written on January 30, 2018 by Chris Kenyon of Wolcott, NY, a regular columnist with the Finger Lakes Times, Sun and Record, Lake Ontario Outdoors and freelance writer with other publications, as well as Recreational Promotional Coordinator for Wayne County Tourism. Chris assists with the Wayne County Youth Derby and other outdoor events. He also takes time to work with the Montezuma Audobon Center on programs involving kids, including their Youth Pheasant Hunt. He is a constant presence at sportsmen's events, shows, and anything involving the outdoors. Kenyon is a tireless advocate for enjoying the outdoors, preserving the environment, and sharing knowledge and skills.
  14. Bays - Fifty degrees today for the high and then down below freezing…so that’s a good thing for ice anglers. The ice is still safe, running over a foot on Sodus and Port Bays. But… you still need to realize that the run-offs from the creeks will travel underneath ice and make certain locations not consistent with safe ice. The perch epic continues at all Wayne County bays with most of the fish 12 inches long. Some are running 14 inches. You can use whatever you have in your box. Small paddle tails are working as well as small and mid-size jigs. Swedish Pimples are also catching perch. Put some perch eyes or spikes on the end and you’ll have fish. The Sodus Bay hot-spots are all over the bay. At the north end try by the loop, the old trestle and out from Arney’s Marina. At the south end fish straight-out from Bay Bridge Sport Shop or Davenports or the northeast side by Skipper Restaurant. There is parking at the bottom of Shaker Heights Road, however you need to be there early in the morning to find a spot. You can park by the restaurant at Port Bay and fish the points of the bay. The south end DEC road is probably safe now that the snow has melted. Note that we have experienced a thaw - be careful not to dig-up lawns etc. while trying to find a place to park. Wayne County has an ice fishing guide which gives you the basics of fishing on our bays. Contact the tourism office if you would like the brochure. Check out the rest of the Wayne County Tourism web page for the locations and hours of local bait and tackle shops. www.waynecountytourism.com. Erie Canal - There is plenty of ice on the canal and if you are tired of catching all the perch from the bays, try for bluegills at Widewaters. This report was written on January 23, 2018 by Chris Kenyon of Wolcott, NY, a regular columnist with the Finger Lakes Times, Sun and Record, Lake Ontario Outdoors and freelance writer with other publications, as well as Recreational Promotional Coordinator for Wayne County Tourism.
  15. Bays - The recent thaw hasn’t really affected ice thickness, however with last week’s rain the run-off from streams into the bays is creating unsafe ice in certain locations. Beware where the streams pour into bays and stay away from those areas. The ice is 12 inches on sections of Sodus and Port Bays. Anglers are fishing for perch off the points of Port Bay and near the north end of the bay. Sodus Bay has action near the south end, over by Arney’s Marina, and near the old Malt House area. Again…not all ice is uniform after last week’s two inches of rain and 57-degree temps. The perch fishing has been excellent. Once you find the schools of larger fish, stay put and entice the bites with jigs, small paddle tail rubber bait tipped with spikes. This report was written on January 16, 2018 by Chris Kenyon of Wolcott, NY, a regular columnist with the Finger Lakes Times, Sun and Record, Lake Ontario Outdoors and freelance writer with other publications, as well as Recreational Promotional Coordinator for Wayne County Tourism.
  16. Bays - Sodus and Port Bays have 8 inches of solid ice and even though temps are going to be high this week, it shouldn’t really melt significant ice. Pouring rain could make it messy, however it still should be safe. The perch fishing has been the best in decades with the best fishing out from Arney’s Marina on the north-west side of the bay. Jigs tipped with spikes or perch eyes are catching the 10-inch fish. Perch school so move if you are catching smaller fish. You can also use lager 3-inch rubber minnows. Pick your favorite brand and tip with spikes. Anglers are also catching perch near the south-east end of Sodus and some pike are being caught near LeRoy Island. Port Bay has action at the north end. The south end road hasn’t been plowed so make sure you have a 4X4 if you want to take a chance driving the DEC road. Wayne County has an ice fishing guide, which gives you the basics of fishing on our bays. Contact the tourism office if you would like the brochure. Check out the rest of the Wayne County Tourism web page for the locations and hours of local bait and tackle shops. www.waynecountytourism.com. Erie Canal- There is a solid 8 to 10 inches of ice at Widewaters. Shanties were out there on Sunday however not sure what they were catching. The canal has plenty of perch and bluegills with some pike also being caught at Widewaters. This report was written on January 9, 2018 by Chris Kenyon of Wolcott, NY, a regular columnist with the Finger Lakes Times, Sun and Record, Lake Ontario Outdoors and freelance writer with other publications, as well as Recreational Promotional Coordinator for Wayne County Tourism.
  17. Bays-The ice is here and let’s hope it stays. Sodus Bay has 8 inches, Port Bay the same and Blind Sodus a little thicker. This is an average thickness as ice never freezes uniformly. The action on Sodus is over by the docks out from Katlynn Marina. That would be the area known as the old trestle where the coal boats used to dock in the 60’s. Just follow the shanties. Another hot spot is at the south-east part of Sodus. The perch are in 18 feet of water and hitting artificial small rubber or perch colored jigs. The fish are schooling so you might have to move around for the jumbos. The pike are hitting between LeRoy Island and the east shore of the bay. Port Bay anglers are finding perch off the points and close to the channel. Some trucks drove down the barrier road, however you’re on your own if you get stuck. It might be better to walk out to the ice. Remember, as ice anglers you are visiting the bays, so don’t trespass on land where you don’t have permission to park. And don’t leave stuff on the ice, like propane tanks. Wayne County has an ice fishing guide which gives you the basics of fishing on our bays. Contact the tourism office if you would like the brochure. Check out the rest of the Wayne County Tourism web page for the locations and hours of local bait and tackle shops. www.waynecountytourism.com. Erie Canal- Anglers were catching pan fish near Widewaters in Newark. The ice is 8 inches thick. Just beware the canal still has current and not all ice is uniform. This report was written by Chris Kenyon of Wolcott, NY, a regular columnist with the Finger Lakes Times, Sun and Record, Lake Ontario Outdoors and freelance writer with other publications, as well as Recreational Promotional Coordinator for Wayne County Tourism. Chris assists with the Wayne County Youth Derby and other outdoor events. He also takes time to work with the Montezuma Audobon Center on programs involving kids, including their Youth Pheasant Hunt. 18. Streams-For the last week of the year Maxwell is currently holding steelhead, however with predicted lake effect and frigid temps, the stream will be tough to fish. And you can’t pier fish because of ice build-up. Bays-If the streams freeze-over you can’t cast for steelies, however that will be good news for ice anglers. This could be the year of solid ice. Currently the temperature is 18 degrees with the next ten days predicted to be in the ten-degree vicinity. In Wayne, the first safe ice is at LeRoy Island, on the east side of Sodus Bay. Some anglers were out today, and the word is some nice pike and perch were being hauled through the holes. Port Bay is close to be frozen over and by tomorrow there should be at least 4 inches in some places. Never take chances with early ice, even if you know the bay you’re fishing on. Ice never freezes uniformly and with bubblers on the docks, areas might not have solid ice. If the week stays cold, we will have solid safe ice. The perch will be hitting larger jigs and during the autumn they were feeding on small bait fish, so “match the hatch.” Check out the rest of the Wayne County Tourism web page for the locations and hours of local bait and tackle shops. www.waynecountytourism.com. Erie Canal- The canal is frozen over and probably has safe ice. Try near Widewaters for perch and bluegills. Kenyon is a tireless advocate for enjoying the outdoors, preserving the environment, and sharing knowledge and skills.
  19. Streams-Last week was brutally cold and today it is 46 degrees. It might be hard to figure out where to fish. Today, Maxwell was open, and the water flow was excellent because of the melting snow. The steelhead are in the creek and they will hit anything bright if you can get your presentation in front of them. Use egg sacs. Bays-The Sterling Pond, better known as the Fair Haven State Park pond had 4 inches of ice two days ago, however that was before the 50-degree front moved through. That Cayuga County body of water is the first place for ice fishing. In Wayne, the first safe ice is at LeRoy Island, on the east side of Sodus Bay. Some anglers tried it, however they broke through at the shoreline. It’s not safe yet so don’t rush the season. The southern half of Sodus has a coating which ruins any chance of launching a boat. That means we’re still between ice and open water making fishing impossible. Stick with the streams until cold weather comes back in town. DEC pulled the docks last week so use caution if you get a chance to put a boat in the water. Check out the rest of the Wayne County Tourism web page for the locations and hours of local bait and tackle shops. www.waynecountytourism.com. Erie Canal- No fishing on the canal. The ice is covering the entire canal, but it’s not safe. This report was written on December 19, 2017 by Chris Kenyon of Wolcott, NY, a regular columnist with the Finger Lakes Times, Sun and Record, Lake Ontario Outdoors and freelance writer with other publications, as well as Recreational Promotional Coordinator for Wayne County Tourism. Kenyon is a tireless advocate for enjoying the outdoors, preserving the environment, and sharing knowledge and skills.
  20. Streams-The Sodus area has about a foot of snow so fishing Maxwell Creek will be a chore. It’s not completely frozen, however being a smaller stream, it will have limited fishing. The steelhead are in both sides of Lake Road and are hitting egg sacs and beads. Fishing the piers last week was neat, but that location is now off-limits. Thirty mile an hour wind has coated the pier with ice. Bays- We are in transition, now hoping for ice. Currently, the wind is howling, and the open water is too dangerous for any boats. All we can do is wait. If we get ice and the wind subsides, we will probably have the most exciting ice fishing season in years. The perch are in all bays and waiting. DEC pulled the docks this week so use caution when launching from the ramps. Check out the rest of the Wayne County Tourism web page for the locations and hours of local bait and tackle shops: www.waynecountytourism.com. Erie Canal- No fishing on the canal. We will just have to wait… This report was written by Chris Kenyon of Wolcott, NY, a regular columnist with the Finger Lakes Times, Sun and Record, Lake Ontario Outdoors and freelance writer with other publications, as well as Recreational Promotional Coordinator for Wayne County Tourism. 21. Streams-There have been some nice steelhead coming from Maxwell, fishing the south side of Lake Road. Use sacs and bright orange beads. The great thing about Maxwell is there is plenty of parking available on both sides of Lake Road. Yesterday, the water flow was perfect and with moderate temps predicted the stream will not freeze-over. You can also fish Hughes’ Marina near the hamlet of Pultneyville. And don’t forget the Sodus Pier which has produced steelhead and browns. Bays- We are still in the middle of the best perch fishing in years. Every bay in the county is producing 10 to 12-inch fish. If we get ice, this could be a record season of catches. Try the points and drop-offs in Port and Sodus Bays. The perch are hitting small artificial minnows with fork or paddle tails. They are schooling by size; however, the big ones have been easy to find. The wind has been relentless, blowing from a different direction daily… so plan and don’t take chances fishing the bays. DEC pulled the docks this week so use caution when launching from the ramps. 22. Streams- Stream fishing has slowed; however, the rainbow will be hitting during the winter months. If Maxwell can stay open from ice the steelhead fishing is great. There are some steelies being caught off the Sodus Pier. Anglers are casting out heavy spoons. The browns are still coming from Maxwell and Bear Creek in Ontario, however that fishing has slowed considerably. Bays- Port Bay surface water temps are in the high 30’s. Maybe we can get some safe ice this season. The outside temperature now is 56 degrees, so that certainly is not good for ice. The perch fishing in Sodus and Port Bays continues to be the best in years. They are hitting 2 or 3-inch minnows or jigs with spikes. They have been 8 to 10 inches, which makes for a nice fillet. Crappies are still in Port Bay and the bite has been the south end of the bay. Again…this fall season has been great for perch and crappies. A nice 5-pound smallmouth was released last week from Port Bay. That’s a big fish. Bass season closes this Thursday, November 30. 23. Streams- Maxwell Creek has a great water flow and the browns are still hitting on the north side of Lake Road. Use egg sacs and beads under a torpedo bobber for the trout. Some steelhead are being caught at Maxwell and Bear Creek in Ontario. The salmon run is over so use your eggs for the trout. There was also a report of some browns coming from Hughes’ Marina, just east of Pultneyville. Don’t forget fishing the Sodus pier can produce some nice trout. That’s if there is no ice on the pier. Bays- The perch fishing continues to be hot on Port Bay and Sodus. Sodus is the big bay while Port Bay is 500 acres. Launch sites are available on both bays. Use artificial or real minnows on a number 4 hook with a sinker on the bottom. Or the perch will also hit small jigs tipped with spikes. The water levels are perfect for launching a boat. Be cautious as the bays are running high 40’s for surface temps. Don’t forget you need to wear your PFD until May. The crappies are still hitting for Port Bay anglers. They are usually suspended over 10 to 15 feet of water. The perch limit is 50 and crappies are 25 fish per angler. 24. Wayne County Fishing Report for November 14, 2017 Streams-Water levels are now perfect for some stream fishing. The flow on Maxwell Creek is perfect. Both parking lots were packed last week. Maxwell is small so the best time to fish is during the week. Browns were hitting egg sacs and beads on the north side of Lake Road. The salmon run is over, however there are still fish porpoising the flat water on the north side. Some steelhead were in Salmon Creek in Pultneyville and you can try the launch site at Bear Creek in Ontario. Pier fishing is an option if you want less crowded conditions. Casting spoons off the Sodus Bay pier has produced some nice browns. Just use caution because the current and cold water temps are very dangerous. You do not want to slip and fall in the channel. Bays- We are experiencing some of the best perch fishing in years. And that’s on all the Wayne County bays. If we have a cold winter the ice fishing will be fantastic. The perch are all over Sodus Bay…near the outlet, and the south end, and over on the east side. They are usually schooling on drop-offs. It’s the same situation on Port Bay and there are also lots of crappies. The perch have been hitting artificial minnow two or three inches. Put five spikes on the end and use a number 4 hook. Don’t forget you need to wear your PFD until May. Check out the rest of the Wayne County Tourism web page for the locations and hours of local bait and tackle shops. www.waynecountytourism.com. 25. Wayne County Fishing Report for November 7, 2017 Streams- We wished for water flow and we now have it, however 8 inches of rain during the last two weeks has left the streams flooding. You can fish the north side of Maxwell Creek where the flow is slower. Cast out egg sacs under a bobber with a heavy sinker. Some steelhead came on the south side of Lake Road, where anglers were throwing out heavy spoons. The steelies were after the salmon eggs. The salmon have just about finished the run and now it’s BT time. When the water recedes, the fishing will be fantastic. Give it a day or two. Bays- The perch are hitting in Port Bay and Sodus. Fish the points where you’ll find drop-offs. Use rubber paddle tails 2 or 3 inches or go with small minnows. You can launch at Bay Bridge Sport Shop for Sodus fishing or the DEC launches at the south and north ends of Port Bay. Don’t forget you need to wear a PFD until May.
