Unfortunately, my boat suffered a cracked block coming out of winter. With things up in the air trying to figure out next steps to repower, this boatless bastard will have to revert to some old ways of catching fish to maintain proper mental health. Off to Olcott pier this afternoon to see if some browns were around. After 30 minutes of casting, I noticed lots of seagulls circling the broken piers off Krull park. Off I went. Hadn’t fished those little piers since childhood so it was a trip down memory lane. I was fully expecting to see some bait around with all the bird life but none could be seen. Nothing was hitting my Rapala flat raps either so I had to adjust. I noticed in the clear water off the piers there was some decent rock rubble and craggy shale- perfect habitat for gobies. On went a Rebel jointed brown trout pattern and it was game on. I would make about ten casts then hop to the next pier.  Rinse and repeat.  Each time the new pier would reload. Epic brown battles plus a bonus Atlantic. With the warm South wind it made for an enjoyable afternoon.  I am not feeling so bad about being boatless.

Looks like a good day!  I'll be in Wilson the weekends of the 16th and 23rd.  I'll have 4 guys on my boat but with a 30ft Boston Whaler with a 10.4ft beam i have room for 1 more.  We were docked side by side a few years ago in Olcott and you were always willing to share info with me so you are welcome on my boat anytime.   Just let me know if you'd like to go.

Count your blessings!  My winter project is a functional restoration of a 2000 Lund 1700 with a 90 HP Johnson oil injection 2 stroke.  Had to go buy a used trailer and convert it to bunks, have new bearings and brakes done on that.  ($$) Probably pulled 50' of useless wires out from years of slapdash electrical add ons that don't work anymore then rewire all the electronics.   Had to have new throttle and shift cables installed because the ones on there were so long they kinked up and bent the metal ends like a pretzel making it impossible to add throttle. ($$). So after a winter's worth of backbreaking work, I took my project out for a maiden voyage yesterday.  Will now need to drain the onboard fuel tank, clean the carb, new plugs and install a water separator so it will run at low idle without stranding me at the dock with no motor power to assist getting it back on the trailer.  You never want to be "that guy!"  ($$$)  Etc, etc.......point being, look at how much fun you had without all the baggage.  There something to be said for simple beauty.  Those are some great looking fish.  Don't be surprised if you see me out on the piers soon!

I get up to bootleggers cove on Friday afternoons on those weekends.  We normally fish Friday evening,  Saturday as long as everyone wants to stay out and then Sunday until around 1pm.  Let me know what days you want to go or if all of them, it doesn't matter to me.  Lol

You may want to check or replace the fuel line hoses. Certain years would have an inner liner within the hose start to break down and start shedding. Causes clogs.

That's a very good suggestion.  I have no reason to believe these year 2000 fuel lines have ever been replaced.  Hardest part of this will be getting all the fuel out of the inboard tank.  Can't find a direct access to a low drain plug so I'm going to see how much will come out with a siphon and then use an air gun on the compressor into the fuel fill.
