Is it just me or is the fishing not great this year ?

I've been out of Wilson 3 times during the derby . Got 6 fish . Skunked twice.

Yesterday I was around some boats and never saw a net move .

With alewife die offs, it's easy pickings for the fish. Why would they eat your offerings when there are easy meals swirling in circles and easier to catch.

Haven’t been out (disclaimer) but with all the East winds, based on past experience, fish are often high in the water column making it easy to fish below the fish. I take a lot of fish this time of year in East winds on 4-8 colors of lead all day long.

It's very easy to fish under the fish. A plug on a flat line with a keel sinker often works wonders.

I've been out three times in Mexico bay and with only a smallmouth to show for it. But I only have a partial understanding as to what I'm doing.

The problem is we've been spoiled for many years with warmer Winters that progressed the season. We also had an enormous wild crop the last few years that aged out at 3 last season.

I grew up fishing the bar in May. I remember years having to go over the boarder to get Salmon the first week'ish of May. We had East winds last weekend, which will blew the water West. We had East winds the weekend before, and we had East winds this week. Our friends on the other side of the boarder are having a field day with the Salmon the last few days.

East winds blow water West, but bubbles can also break off and go North. If you can find one of those bubbles the top 40' can be dumb over deep water.
