Thank you for the report. Appreciate the info.

We were out yesterday morning  for fathers day. Launched from Genesee river. Had my dad, father in law and my son with me. Trolled out to 140 fow. Only had one bite all day from a small coho on the rigger that my son landed. Tons of dead baitfish in the water.

When we came in there was a guy from DEC at the launch who was inspecting boats for invasive species. I asked him if he knew what was going on with the dead fish. He said many folks have been asking about that the past week but they are not quite sure what was going on.

Thanks Matt

I like the squid teaser idea , I don’t always have extra twinkies on hand . Appreciate the info on meat I’m still struggling with it .

In.my.opinion this is a typical "June Transition". There is a large amount of bait in the system despite the die off you are seeing. The predators are not inclined to feed heavily with that much real McCoy around. That being said, I would tend to believe as this bait moves out , the fishing will get better.

The one piece of the puzzle missing is the thermocline set ups. We used to fish surface breaks all June for steelhead on offshore scum lines and down breaks. In recent years we have had quite a bit of NE wind which destroys any chance of getting breaks set up..(at least where I have been out).

Bought 7 rigs a year ago from an out of state company and found 3 different lengths. It’s like they didn’t even try to make them all the same. Wasn’t even close and I’m now back to making them myself.

Burping fish?

That's a great trick!

Have to admit, I've never even heard that before.

As for re-lining the meat rigs, I'm totally with you there, for many reasons.

Thanks for the vid, always great info.
