Tributary Fishing in 2 Weeks - in Cobourg Area

Recommended Posts

I am a Colorado fly fisherman who's headed to the Cobourg area (east of Oshawa) to fish the tributaries for what I believe are some big fish (15-20 pounders?). This will be quite a different experience from fishing the streams and lakes in the Rockies.

Can anyone be so kind as to suggest what type and size of flies I might want to use? I hear green is key.

Also, would an 8 pound fly rod used for fishing Bonefish in Mexico be sufficient or should I get something heftier?

Thanks very much for your help.

Why waste your time fishing Cobourg Creek when you have the Ganaraska River only a 10 minute drive west? And as stated, a 7/8 weight rod would be more than satisfactory as I use an 11.5' 8 weight fly rod blank. Cobourg Creek only has about 300' of good fishing and then there is a lot of shallow runs.....

Thank you both for your helpful information.

The Ganaraska River sounds like a good option. How far north out of Port Hope can you go that's public water? How far up do the fish run? Also, is it crowded with a lot of people fishing?

Thanks again. I appreciate the help and direction.
