Buffalo Harbor

Recommended Posts

The water temp has still not gotten down to 47 degrees where the gizzard shad schools would mostly move into the warmer waters behind the Harbor walls.Best bet for Saturday would be to troll the Buffalo Creek stained water area of the North Gap.Troll the drop off edge from Donley's Wall to the green bouey's around the corner to the Black Rock canal. The current pulls toward the river so you have to angle your boat to stay on the edge as you troll down the ledge.Stay in at least 21ft of depth as you troll along, after 21ft it jumps right up to 12ft and shallower quickly.I would use Jtd Depthraiders in Sucker color or Black Perch at 2.5 mph!

Friday will be a better day then Saturday due to wind changes from SW to West and barometric pressure moves.

Lee,The shad should be in near the mudline of the Buffalo Creek by the Homeland Security Base in the North Gap.It will most likely be a 15 to 20 mph West wind, the South end of the harbor will roll with a west wind,North end will be calmer because the winds are coming off Canadian shore.Word I got today that muskies are mixed in the bait fish on both ends of the harbor, but they have all still been closed mouth the last five days.

If you do go out the North Gap to the last set of bouey's troll cross ways from the red bouey to the green bouey,30ft to 35ft drop there that holds bait fish and muskies as well.

Wow! Only Three boats in the Buffalo Harbor this Sunday at 11:00 a.m.. Winds light, waves down, barometric pressure down, water temp 45.5 Degrees, but water visability only about 1 1/2 feet.Could be a big fish day for one the boats that went out.Gizzard shad should be in now, only today and Monday before the NY Musky Season closes on Lake Erie and the NY portion of the Upper Niagara River. Canadian waters of Lake Erie & Upper Niagara River open till December 15th.

We gave it a good wack on Saturday 10-3pm, saw lots of bait in the south gap and the midway gap across from the launch. Two other boats out as well, nothin going for us or anyone I saw. But thanks for all the advice. Maybe conditions will be better next year!
