Replacing steering cable

Wondering how much it would cost to replace a steering cable on a 16' starcraft aluminum boat, the cable is kinked and the boat is due for a new one. Older boat, but engine is a 40 Horse Merc I think 2000 or 2001. Any help would be appreciated.

West marine has a 14 foot cable for 99.99 dollars.

Do what I did. Take it out and take it to the store with you.

If you have to take your floor up you may want to replace the throlle and foward reverce linkage at the same time....................I did my steering and a year or so later had to replace the throlle/gear linkage

I too have an older 16' Starcraft ( 1973) with a 50HP Merc. When we rebuilt the boat about 7 years ago, we purchased a complete steering kit for about the cost of just the cable from some places. West Marine, Overton's if I remember right. Just get the length off the old cable and the motor end type you need and you're all set.
