This year we decided we would test our luck in a pro am. Friday we started right in front of port in 80 to 220fow. We had a very respectable day with some good kings. Saturday morning we were very confident as we left the dock until we reached the lake and realized there was going to be a very stiff NE to deal with. We figured our 22' crestliner would be rocking and rolling! Right from the get go we started hitting fish. A laker was the first fish 30' down over 80. That right there should have told us to leave that area but we stuck to our program not wanting to get too far from port. We then proceeded to catch 6 kings that all measured about 17.5". :@:@ We ended the day with only three keepers. A laker, small king and a beautiful atlantic.

Sunday we figured we better do something very different to redeem ourselves. Everyone we spoke with said the fish are west. We are the type of fishermen that usually try to stay as far away from other people as possible so the logical choice was to go deep and east. We powered out to 350fow and started setting up and right away we were hooked up. A small king hit the deck and we were pretty sure it was going to be a much better day. About 400fow the 10 colors and the 42' rigger started going nuts!! A very nice king hit out port rigger and as he got close to the boat he decided he was going to create a little havoc. He dove under three riggers and plowed face first into the prop!!! Somehow we managed to land that fish even though 75% of his face was cut off. The only part left was the little corner of the mouth where our hook was. By 9 am we had 7 very respectable fish in the box. Wow....4 hours to go and we only need 2 more fish. Then the disease called skipperitis kicked in. We couldn't buy a legal fish. At around 11 we finally landed another nice king and never did get that 9th fish. At the weigh in it looked like we could make a little charge up the leader board. We ended up with around 155 or so points for day 2 but only 46 or 48 for day 1. We did manage to finish 4th and we could not have been happier!!

Our hottest set ups for the weekend were basically any SS that was green or orange and in the top 60fow. The 10 colors did most of our fish. A special thank you to everybody who has anything to do with the pro am tourny and to our spotter "cheers". You guys put on a great event!!!!!!
