Big Jon Planer Board Reels - Manual v. Electric

ReelPower

Recommended Posts

I run Big Jon manual planer reels and pulleys off my hardtop rail. The plastic reels have broken at the handle (after one season).

Does anyone rune the electric Big Jon Reels off a hardtop rail? Do the electric reels fit? Should I bother?

Any insight into my dilemma is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

While I cannot answer your question, maybe give Big Jon a call and see if there is a way to make it work. I know their customer service has been rated top-notch on this website. I've been running the manual reels for a few years with no issues, but also looking to upgrade to electrics just for ease of operation.

Reel power,

I had one of my plastic reels on my BJ downriggers break last year after only one season and after a quick call to Big Jon, they sent me TWO new reels free of charge.

I second the opinion that their customer service is excellent.

Thanks guys I'll give 'em another call...tried to order new reels through their website...it wouldn't work. Tried to contact a person as instructed by website, no one picked up. Guess the shop was out fishing late on a Friday afternoon.
