My dad and I have fished the lake for many years but are just beginning to try out some of the "newer" techniques as discussed on this board (wire, dipsey's, cheaters). This board has been the sole source of information that we have needed to get our new rigs set up and has been an amazing resource for us - so thank all of you who have shared your knowledge.

Now to my question. We are running a main line of 30# Big Game with a 10-12ft Seaguar fluoro leader. I attach the leader to the main line using a barrel swivel. Is this the preferred method to attach the two lines? If yes, will this have an impact on the ability of the cheaters to slide down my line if I have a fish on the cheater? Any info would be appreciated.

We use flouro leaders on all our rods. About 5' secured to the main line with a double overhand (surgeons) knot. The only exception is we use a barrel swivel on rods we run stickbaits off the boards with. We used to by the actual leader material for abrasion resistance but have found the regular line works almost as well. We will use leader material when not fishing Ontario.... ie saltwater flats fishing etc.
