Dixie Trout

One of the voids I have been longing to fill in my angling career has been a trip to the mystical Smoky Mountains in search of wild and native trout. I was truly fortunate to have visited Smoky Mountains National Park this past week. While it was a family oriented trip that my wife and I took with my brother, his wife, my brother-in-law and his girl friend, I was able to escape a little while onto a couple streams armed with a 3 wt. pack rod and a box full of flies. I am still flushed with awe as to the beauty and surrealism of this wonderful ecosystem. Rhododendron and mountain laurel woodlands and clear mountain streams choked with moss covered boulders. Upon close inspection the forest floor reveals a multitude of almost alien-like fungi in a multitude of colors and shapes. Early mornings and evenings in the park also awaken the fauna of the area leaving anticipation and surprise around every corner. The trout are just a bonus.....
