Great Lakes Wind Truth

Recommended Posts

On December 1st, 2009, The New York State Power Authority submitted a request for proposal to potentially build an industrial wind farm off the shores of Lake Ontario and Erie

This proposal would see the construction of 100-166 40ft industrial wind turbines offshore (50-150ft) stretching through from Parma, Greece, Rochester, Irondequoit and Webster with a possible power plant and storage facility location in Irondequoit Bay. There are several other potential projects targeting Niagara, Ontario, and the St Lawrence counties.

We have recently made the news regarding this issue and are looking for your help. We have went door-to-door in our community to raise nearly 700 signatures to oppose this development. I was put to the task to ask the LOU community to join in the fight. This will affect fishing in lake Ontario. Please go to the link provided and sign our petition to oppose the GLOW project in the Great Lakes. WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Thanks for posting this Mike. I would also like to add that I recently received a letter from NY Senator George Maziarz, who is seeking support to make sure our voices are heard. His letter states that this project is a major initiative and will require major public involvement. He asks that New York State residents send him feedback regarding this project. You can email him at [email protected] or send written comments to him at his district office:

It only takes a minute to contact him via email and tell him you support his efforts to make this project more transparent to the people of NYS and that the affect of the Great Lakes Offshore Wind Project (GLOW) on tourism, sports fishing, and our quality of life must be considered.

Recently, a new organization was formed by representatives from all over NY and several from Canada--"Great Lakes Wind Truth". We need numbers to fight the "big money" and prevent the travesty of windmill projects in the waters of the Great Lakes. It is FREE to join and support the mission! 1) send an email to: [email protected] and give your name and address. 2) become a friend/fan on facebook--Great Lakes Wind Truth. Have everyone you know do this as well. We are up against years and years of the spreading of misinformation. Not only would it be wrong to have these projects "in the water", there is mounting evidence that they are not feasible in any way, shape, or form, and electric rates will sky rocket. Oh yeah, and so will your taxes when we all get done paying for them.

Thank You,

Vince

Done, here are my comments:

The environmental impact of placing these wind turbines into the waters of the Great Lakes, one of the most important sources of freshwater in the world is far too great to consider. Especially since the amount of power generated is insignificant compared to other safer means of power generation such as Nuclear or Hydro-electric.

As an NY State non-resident angler, I fully oppose this proposal to build a windfarm in the waters of Lake Ontario and Erie.

Thanks guys. Lets not forget about this. The proponents are going about their business like the big "pay day" is coming. Then, when they are rusted and broken down, they will be on to the next subsidized disaster to fill their pockets. Imagine wanting to swing back through the active fish, but having to make a THREE MILE swing around the monstrosities in order to comply with the "safety zone"?!!! A very real possibility.

Capt. Vince,

Do you have any of these type of organizations in your area? The last one is the province of Ontario not Lake Ontario. But they do have an offshore section. If you don't want to have a fit don't open the links.
