I would vote for Sandy Creek (Hamlin) but it's not there. The same (if not better fishing than the Oak) and 100 less boats to troll around on a Saturday. :D Sandy has it all for fish species. Look at the structure with in a couple miles of Port. You have Devils Nose, Wautoma Shoal, Light House point and Braddocks point. If the Oak was so good, why did a bunch of Pro Am boats drive from the Oak to Sandy 2 years ago on Big fish Friday? I recall seeing a bunch of big names around that morning.

 You will all be duking it out at the docks at the Orleans Pro-am and get disqualified and we''ll be fishing! I like all you guys and I love the challenge that each port offers! I appreciate what all of you do for the lake, from pen raising fish to running tournaments! If it wasn't for guys like Paul and Tom we would have STUGOTS!!!! My hats off to you boys! Keep up the good work men! Now lets go catch some kings!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lewiston/ Youngstown has a lot of use all year long, the Bar and River, and more "bars"

Youngtown for the best year'round fishing port. Wilson, if you include amenities such as shops, marinas and restraunts.

Really Matt... Sodus? With the exception of land trolling it has to be one of the toughest ports to fish on the lake. The consistency of fishing is terrible. I vote somewhere between Rochester and the Oak. Its all good, except for the weekend of the pro-am

I voted for the Oak. No doubt the nightlife is at Sodus, but the fishing for a few months of the season, isn't.

Too bad this had to take a bad turn. I've had some good chuckles. As for the "stugots" term, I grew up listening to my dad say it. What DOES it mean? I've even used it as (what I think is correct) a derogatory name for someone, like idiot. Help me out here, Dave.

Those of you that know me understand I rarely take the "politically correct" position. This being said, do we really have to pick ONE? I will say this, I would rather fish ANY port ALL YEAR if it is connected to Lake Ontario, than any other in the world. If we have to pick just one, I could get behind either the Oak or Oswego, all things considered. Now, if you want to consider the 18miles between Olcott and the Niagara mouth/Youngstown Lewiston stretch, it's not even close. For the purpose of this thread, the Oak or Oswego would represent us well.

In our travels up and down the Lake chartering and fishing Tournaments, we have had great times on and off the water at all the ports. We have encountered MIND BLOWING Salmon action some years at Oswego and Sodus. Yes,some years they are not there. So tragic to fall back on "power schools" of 6-8lb BT's. We are so spoiled.

If we are gonna use the "8 mile rule", then you gotta go Olcott or Wilson. By the looks of things, a whole lot of people breakin' that 8 mile deal the end of April through early June, when these ports are loaded with transient boats. Why? KINGS. HELLO.

I have nothing but great memories from the Oak, but that 8 mile rule mostly applies June through September. Sure is a fishy port though. Great people, great anglers, great history, good support businesses. Love going back there. Yes, Oswego can chew you up and spit you out, but it's definitely a "fishy" port. If you can compete there you can compete anywhere on the Great Lakes.

IMO, consistency-wise I would rate Olcott and Wilson second to none. Yes we are lacking in support businesses. Any developer with a vision out there want to turn Olcott-Wilson into one big "Mega Harbor" ?

Come-on jeff not defending your home turf? lol I haven't had the pleasure to witness the amazing fishery the oak has to offer. I only see it during the pro/am and usually the fishing is decent up until the tournament then the wind blows and i can't find the fish lol. So i guess the place has left a bad taste in my mouth over the last few years lol. I still remember the first year i fished the port as an amateur, the only goose egg i've ever had in a tourny on the first day so the second day we ran to wilson and beyond and finally found the fish near the end of the day, we caught 3 fish yet almost jumped into the money, missed out by a pound. Tough fishing for sure! So for consistancy i guess i'll change my vote to olcott wilson area.

I love Sodus Matt, but that area of the lake leaves me scratching my head more than I care to admit. There one day, gone the next. Vanish without reason. However, I have had my best days ever between Bear Creek and Port Bay. Go figure?

I thought "STUGOTS" was a slang word for "nothing" or "empty" "zilch" "zero" in Italian. If anyone watches the "THE SOPRANO'S" on tv, Tony's boat name is the "STUGOTS"!

For an example," Bob Buck has stugots in his cooler"! Just kidding Bob!

I will ask my 92 year old nonna tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Well I have to side with Vince on this one I see way too many of you for way to long every spring to think any other way. Dave just cause you win a Pro Am at the Oak doesnt mean they get your vote? Just kidding in all seriousness we are lacking in hotels BUT if you have a big enough boat would you give up the amenities down West? I think not! Bars, resturants, entertainment,(ie casino, gentlemens clubs, theme parks, bands) and then you get to the fishing. Now were talking KINGS all year, the spring Browns all but forgotten due to the um KINGS, the cohos move in come June, then more Browns off the red barn come July, Then more KINGS and everybodys bread and butter some summer steel if your up to it. I cant believe im saying this but even the Lake Trout are available most days. June was always a slow month and a welcome break after a busy May but the last several years we cant buy a lull in the action. Most days 8 miles might be round trip! The best port isnt always where all the fishermen are except during April, May and June. I dare you guys to even try to stay home! In all seriousness Oswego and the Oak are legendary from a charter standpoint, both closer to that almighty dollar of New England and NYC. Both have HUGE runs of BIG KINGS but all travel time aside you wear your heart on your sleeve and I see it there as you pull out and head for home. The last thing out of your mouth is save me my spot for next year right? As sure as the seasons change come hell or high water the Western Basin proves itself to be #1. We are however running out of dockspace thanks to the blow boaters?????? So dont even think of staying longer!

Stugot i believe refers to a certain male genital as a verb describing someone. The long one, or the short one on the front side. Either way it would still be funny if it were in Bob's cooler
