RUFF RIDER Live Reports from Wilson 5/19-5/27

Recommended Posts

Nick,

You missed the best bite of the weekend because of your kicker. We went back out Saturday afternoon around 5:00 and had rods flying for three hours. Nothing bigger than 14lbs, but a lot of 12lb fish taking second place. 100-120 FOW just East of Wilson. Called it a night at 8:00 because we figured the bite would carry over into this morning. WRONG!!!

My friend from WV is still mad because I made his wife throw back a 10lb laker. Those WV folks just want meat!!! :D

Yea whenever there's an east wind I either dont bother fishing or sleep in, for whatever reason it turns the fish off until they "have to eat" later in the day. Unfortunately, theyre calling for east winds most of the week :(

Well after we got the boat all tidied up and debugged, we headed out for a ride. We stopped at the roadside take out place down the road called Brownies.

They sell food and ice cream, we of course chose ice cream. I recommend the parkerhouse, theresa recommends the kaluah almond armaretto.

We then headed across the rainbow bridge into canada.

We stopped in at the niagara casino for a bit.

We blew some money on the slots and were getting ready to leave when Theresa ran up to me in a panic saying "we need to get back to the truck NOW!" My first thought was she was hurt or sick, but then she pointed to her fingers and said "i dont know what I did with my engagement and wedding rings!" See if you can figure out where she left them for "safe keeping"! She got very lucky no one smashed the window...

Up nice and early tomorrow, taking my old boss and his friend out in the morning, night everyone!

So one of our sliders got caught on the outdrive. The line broke while I was trying to get it, cant see what it's hooked on or where it is or if its still there. Should I take a swim to get it or take my chances?

I would make sure when you pull the boat to trailer home, you check/change your lower unit oil..... ;) Any water or milky oil in there and it would be wise to change your seal. Good luck.

Wish I was out there this week...But I'm running charters in OZ..I will be back out this weekend though. Keep up the reports ! Lots of people like to follow you and your success via this thread! :D Where are the pictures of the dog? Make sure you throw that tennis ball twice as much as YOU want to.

FWIW, swimming in a Marina is potentially dangerous with all of the stray currents from shore power etc., and not knowing who's got messed up boat wiring. You'd be much safer anchoring in shallow water outside of the harbor where there is no chance of electrocution.

There's always a possibility of fishing line getting wrapped in your prop, and causing damage to your lower unit seal..I wouldn't let it worry you to death...just check the oil in the lower unit when you are done. Really simple to check. Buy lower unit oil in squeeze bottle, open top vent, open lower fill hole, push new oil in from bottom up. until old oil comes out top..clean up mess. ;) Just remember that any water or milky oil will be in the bottom and last to come out the top....

If the old oil comes out clean, water free..you have no problem with your seal. Any water or milky oil, and it is time to change your seal.

If you are "mechanically challenged", have the wife do it! 8)

No need to swim. Raise the drive up all the way and lay on the swim platform and look for leaks and line in the prop. When I got line im my prop, the gear oil could be visible seen coming out of the prop seal.
