Copper Releases

Just curious as to what releases everybody uses when pulling copper off their boards?

I use the bigger Scotty power grips for the long coppers and coppers with flashers and the mini power grips for short coppers with spoons.

I use the same. Metal shower curtain rings and rubberbands. Just got to find the lightest lb rubberbands. I get mine from staples. I love to use Scottie's but they are $ and you got to have a lot on board unless you want to pull your boards in all the time. I plan on picking up Scottie's slowly but I keep finding tackle that I want more.

The rubber band method works great but it takes some tweaking to get the right size rubber band and connection method. Each type of rig pulls differetly and thus requires a different size or connection. There is a big difference between a spoon on a 300 copper and a flasher on a 600 copper.

A light load requires a lighter band or put only one loop of a heavier band through the shower ring. Heavier loads may need two loops through the shower ring in order to hold against wave surge. You'll know your bands are too heavy when a 20 king becomes a shaker.

can you hook the copper directly to the release or do you need to be in the baking for this to work off of the board?

NEVER connect the copper to the release. It will break the copper.

Ditto! If it doesnt break the first time you leave a weak spot. Then next time you hook a fish...SNAP! I learned that one the hard way.

When I am running the walleye boards of the copper I've had the release tightened down all the way and the PP backing breaks and I loose the copper and flasher/fly how do I stop this?

I put a 10 ft section of 50 lb momo between the braid backi g and the copper. The mono is the best to attatch the release to
