Problem with releases

Recommended Posts

Hal.

When stacking rods on a rigger you want to keep in mind the distance between releases and the length from the release to the lure.

If you have 10 ft from ball to lure and the stacked line is only 5 ft above, when letting the ball down, the bottom line can tangle your stacked line because it reaches by 5 ft.

So you want a short lead on the bottom, and you want the stacked rod to be above the ball by AT LEAST the length from the ball to lure of bottom rod.

Also, If you run a really long lead on the stacked rod and get a fish on the bottom rod, chances are good he'll get tangled in the stacked rod.

I prefer to run sliders and cheaters now instead of stacking rods because of the tangle issue.

I agree with the above comments on putting the release above the ball. You will get less blowback because you aren't lifting the ball with your rigger rod.
