Ugly Stik Dipsey Rod

I just purchased a 10' Ugly Stik Dipsey rod and am wondering if it will also work as a downrigger rod in the future

(when I get a downrigger).

um keep the big rod for the dyp...back in the day i used 7.00 walmart rods for riggers..Hey never broke one and still have a few in use for walleye ..

Will it work , yes. Just not as well as a real rigger rod. The dipsie rod is to stiff to load up the line from the release to the rod. Thats why they make the differant rods ,Stiffer action for the hard pulling dipsies and the more limber rods to load up off the riggers.
