SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

====================

Another great time at the Sandy Creek Shootout and thanks again to organizers and sponsors. I was joined by friend Dave from work and John Kelley and we headed out of the creek at 5:00 to find that the weatherman had his head up his arse. :@ We were surprised at the number of boats already out with lights flickering on and off with the waves. We stayed East of most of the pack and started setting up in 70fow heading North. We ran two wire dipsey's with spinny/fly combos consisting of a green dot SD /atommik green hammer out 225 and a carbon 14 SD/ Moonshine carbon 14 fly out 245 and 3 riggers with spoons - moonshine silver carbon at 75, DW green gator mag at 65 , and a Moonshine green shorts mag at 85. Spoons would be changed out many times and there was no MVP as they seemed to take only smaller fish for us. We did run green dot, black dot, and white nuclear SD w/matching Flies on the corner riggers for a period and they each took a fish or two. The green dot spinny/ green hammer fly combo on the 225 wire was by far our hottest set up and accounted for most of our fish including a 12+lb steely that was 12 in the LOC when weighed in and won biggest steelhead in the shootout netting us a nice prize from Dreamweaver :yes::yes: A white SD/ ITO 6" white glow fly took the 2nd king of double on our wires. We had steady bites up until 9:00 working at stretch of 170-200fow and then we hit a lull after circling a king that was wrapped in the wire sending us off course. The next 2hrs would be slim pickins with 1 knock-off and one dink. The bite seemed to turn back on around 11 when we found a pod of steelies. We had a lot of laughs and fished well together for being the first time the 3 of us had fished together :clap: Looking forward to next year already. Congrats to all who placed as there were some very impressive boxes of kings, especially Jason, Trish, and Andy for the 3-peat :clap:

We had a blast even though the lake was trying to drown us!!LOL :lol: If we could have just hooked some larger fish we would have been right up there. I was impressed by how many fish stayed buttoned in those waves. 18th place and big steelhead, not too shabby for our first tournament! Look out next year, Sandy crowd, we will be aiming for the money!!!LOL :clap::clap:8)

Congrats on the big Derby / Shootout Steelhead Shawn.

P.S. You made FISHINMAN happy by catching a laker in his honor! :P

Hahaha, he almost caught two, but we were giving him such a bad time about it, I think he cut the line right by the boat!! :lol::lol::rofl::rofl:

Yes - it was nice to catch a Laker for Tom since he couldn't make it this year, but I would never cut the line to give a laker a free lure :D However, I might intentionally try to "ethically" release one..... ;)

Congrates Shawn, on the big steelie! We had a very impressive catch of steelies as well the day after, and the king bite we had earlier in the tournament was a little slower, but those steelies made up for it. The boys did a good job on them arnd got three up to 13 lbs , along with a very nice olive colored 20 lb king. A little late for the big fish challenge weigh in on Sunday. We were at the 27 to 30 lines at 1:15 and no chance to check it for place, but the kids were having fun fishing so we played with the steelies with some impressive air time!
