January 12th - Irondequoit

Mel and I took the tinny out to see if we could muster up a few photo ops. Ran six flatlines in various colors between Oklahoma Beech and Webster Park. I picked out colors for "my side" and Mel picked out colors for "her side." Water was very clear and we had 35-36 degree water the whole way down. With all the run off you would have expected to find some warm pockets at Shipbuilders and Webster Park, but there wasn't any to be found. One of Mel's choices was a Black and Gold Rapala J9. The only one in my box! That went 0 for 4 back 75'. Two strikes between Shipbuilders and the White Cross, and Two in front of Webster Park.

On a side note....a rebel buddy of mine hit up Ginna Sunday morning and went 32 for 35 in 5 hours with 5 rods. God I miss that place.

Hey rich, i went to check out my boat and hit the pier at irondequoit. I talked with a guy who spoke to you on your way in. I figured it was you and he told me of your bites. Upon hearing that i stayed there for a full 15 minutes and went to shippies to see what was going on. The water is as shallow as i have EVER seen it,WOW! The zebra shells washed up on the shore there were at least 4 if not 5 feet deep, ungodly. Took a few casts, no bites and left. If we have to deal with this scary low water i am going to buy stock in prop shops and lure companys.

Yeah, Ginna...you and me both. We used to launch out of Bear Creek and make the run over to fish the discharge in February and March. It was nothing to have 50+ days. Steve actually put an icebreaker on the front of his little skiff.

Something I don't have to worry about doing again in my lifetime ;(

BTW, I gotta talk to Scott, but my ankle isn't going to let me commit to a weekend anytime soon. 4 wk appt this PM and the doc gave me a thumbs-up, but today was the first time I've worn shoes in a month. Good luck up there!

Ya I'd have to say that was an off day...:lol::lol: there were days of over 100 fish but we never trolled, just parked on the side of the discharge and cast ANYTHING. If you wanted bows just throw egg sacks and hang on .... ya Rich I miss it too :(

I did work on the inner and outer parking lots of ginna this summer. Brought 2 rods with me in hopes i might be able to talk my way into something.... not a chance. I had an armed escort anywhere i went. My guys and i couldnt even turn a corner, and go out of site, before

the guards did. However, i was talking to one of the guards about fishing and he actually escorted me to an area near the water and in view of some interior water channels. It was like a haven of fish. I sawnumerous carp at least 40lbs, largemouths that could inhale a softball and quite a few pike. Some prolly over 40 inches. Never fished or trolled around it for trout and salmon nut i could imagine how fun itmust have been. Although the guard said they still allow boats in somewhat close. Either way, stupid terrorists.

We used to park about 25 yards off the fence and cast the discharge .... I coined the term " Stupid Fishing " because anything and everything that was thrown in the water could and would catch fish. Had browns trying to eat a float while a steelhead was sucking down an eggsack. Took Dad one time and before I got a rod out of the rodlocker he LANDED 7 browns on a firetiger cleo. Ya Rich I really do miss that place bt then I'm left asking when would it become "old " . I did have back to back 100+ fish landed with different people in the boat.

A few years ago, was trolling around the bouys and a blowboat...I mean sailboat with a Canadian flag was cruising the shoreline, right through the buoys clueless. He was escorted out shortly after by the Coast Guard Zodiak out of Sodus I am guessing. There was a guy on the bow, not sure but I am guessing ready to shoot

If my memory serves me well,it was the terrorist threat after 9/11 that caused the federal government to take very serious security measures around all of our nuclear plants.

These closures may be a blessing in disguise, because that closed spot will become over populated with fish and they will spread out beyond the forbidden area.

The out flow in front of ginna has been bouyed off since 9/11/2001.The prime reason for the "off limits" is to prevent someone from intentionally blocking the intakes to the nuc.plant, could make for a bad day if this were to happen. You can still catch early spring browns there.See report splash down 1-15-13.Just have to stay outside the bouys.
