Non coated downrigger cable for use with your speed/temp

Recommended Posts

I thought I heard there is now available a non coated cable for using for speed and temp on your downrigger, that gives you a more accurate or constant signal. Is this available, if so what is the brand, and has anyone used it and is it better/worst? Thanks -Matt

Torpedo had it at the Hamburg show last year. Deffinately a cool idea. I'm not sure what the diameter of the cable is, but it looks to be larger in diameter than the standard coated cable, and would be conducive to more blow back.

The signal wire is wrapped up inside the cable strands, that's why it would be a larger diameter. I don't know of anyone who's got it or has used it, so I'm not sure of its performance.

I got it to use on my Cannon Intellitroll. The Intellitroll failed shortly thereafter. So I can't give an opinion on the cables function but it didn't seem to change the blowback as compared to the standard coated cable. It is a better idea than the coated cable because it should last longer. Since it is a twisted cable and not braided it is a little more difficult to terminate.

I used it for the full year in 2012 with the Torpedo Diver antenna using my Sub Troll on a Cannon rigger. It worked great all year with a strong consistent signal throughout. Maybe a little less blowback but no peeling rubber issues when you hit a branch etc. and then you start to loose signal as you go deeper. Best of all, it eliminated the interferance with my TR1 Auto Pilot and allowed the autopilot to function as it should. Torpedo Diver will have their product at the LOTSA show with 'show pricing' on their cable and antenna.
