Cayuga Barney & Bear's 27th Annual Spring Derby

Recommended Posts

Amazing how the reports on Cayuga don't exsist this week.  Well here goes we fished Cayuga yesterday started south end and headed north went 7 for 12.  5 Lakers two salmon.  Fish are all over not quite set up in regular places.  Marked some big fish but I will keep those spots private.  Good luck to all this weekend see ya out there.  The hot lures were the DWB and Alpha Alewife (UV), FLT rules!

Seemed slow today... Compared to 2-3 weeks ago anyway. Went 4 for 5 all Lakers on Black/Silver and Green/Silver Stinger Spoons fished 80-110' down in 100-130 fow. None of any size to brag about. Where did the LL's go?

We fished Sat. Very slow for us. Ran (2)spoon riggers at 30-70 w/ cheaters, (2)mag wire divers w/ ff combos 150-225' out on 1.5, (2)slide divers w/ spoons, and a long spoon copper and a short core stix on each side off the boards. Wound up 7 for 7 w/ nothing to brag about, more of an endurance test than an enjoyable day on the water.Congrats to those that got on the board!-Andy

We fished Saturday only, not by choice. Made a south troll from just north of king town to the ledge at the south end. We hit fish in a few spots on our troll and the screen didn't lie. We strictly ran a salmon program 2 riggers down 15 to 35 and cores 2,3,5,7 off the boards. I found that when we marked good pods of fish rods would fire. Unfortunately the pods were not numerous. We ended up doing 8 salmon 5 of them were just over 20 inches. When we decided to run north our main engine would not start. It made the 15 mile run on the 9.9 kicker take over 2 hours. Spent Sunday morning diagnosing and fixing the problem. Too bad we had motor problems I would have liked to chase the pods of fish we saw earlier? Congrats to all who put fish on the board.

Fished with Jim  (livewire) Sat.  we wound up with the 4th place laker 8#6oz.  It came on a 3 color core and a inline planner board.  Hit a green and orange ladderback R&R .  Had several salmon in the 20" to 23" range and a crazy rainbow that bounced allround inside the boat before we could get him released.   Several other lakers in the the same range as the salmon.   Rainbow came on a magenta shad R&R  the salmon on the orange shad and green pickle. Launched out of long pt.  and fished south.   Nice day on the water .   Saw a pair of loons flshing the same water as we were.post-139530-0-29389700-1369014344_thumb.jpgpost-139530-0-86166000-1369014370_thumb.jpg

The Nauti-troller and crew went 16 for 20 4 salmon (one 18") and 20 lakers on Sat with no large fish. Lost a very large laker (ten plus), oh the one that got away    Lots of filets for all my friends and family who wanted some. Sunday went back to same spot we lost big boy and started hammering big fish.  Todd Sr. landed a 7.2 and Todd Jr landed a 7lber,  If he was a yr and a half younger it would have placed first in the youth division.  :(    All big fish came off of FLT Anna conda! Thanks Bobby! Saturday theFLT  Alpha Alewife was the champ boating a majority of the fish.  Location was South and North of Taughannock and South and North of Milliken.  75 fow on bottom.. Kwik fish did well too, slow speed 1.5-1.8 Thanks to all that ran the tournament! Nice meeting ya Fat Hobbit how did you do?
