Fish dying in I-Bay

I was there yesterday to try some trolling with my two boys. When we arrived we saw maybe 20-30 fish dead at the launch. Aw we got out into the bay you could see dead fish floating everywhere. It is possible that we saw over a hundred dead fish. Not sure what caused this but it was definitely strange. Anybody heard anything?

When I was there two weeks ago it was mostly shad. Happens a lot in winter and spring.

Looked like a carp or sucker possibly? Not sure exactly. Definitely not trout or bass.

Just saw a picture of "shad". That was what I saw. Is that normal for those fish this time of year?

Gizzard Shad.   Dying after spawining.  There are big Gizzards in Olcott for the last month dying in the harbor.

This is just like marriage. You spawn till you die.

This is just natures way of returning nutrients to the lake from which they came. Critters on the bottom will feed on the carcasses creating more food for others. It is not a criminal act as some "do gooders" would like to alarm the public over.
