If you have a NYS guide license do you also need a Captains license?

If you have the Captains license do you need the guide license?

A captains license is only good on navigatable waters. So Conesus and Honeyoye for example would require a guides license. And if by chance you do choose one of those two you also have to get an additional permit from the state which is another test. If you wanted to do trips on a stream, or ice fishing, or on lakes like canandaigua or Seneca you would need a just a guides license.

I dont know, i didnt think about that. Call Denis Daniels at Sea Tech Marine Training. He taught a lot of us who hold a CG license. He would be able to help you.

The answer is YES!

"uscg navigable waters" in NYS are covered w/ uscg captains license.

-The Atlantic Ocean

All other marine, coastal and tidal waters including:

-The Hudson River up to the Troy Barrier Dam

-The St. Lawrence River and the navigable portion of its tributaries

-The Great Lakes and the navigable portion of their tributaries

-Lake Champlain and the navigable portion of its tributaries

-Cayuga Lake and Seneca Lake and the navigable portion of their tributaries
