browns in lake O?

Now that deer season is closed and its too warm for ice fishing im looking to get the boat out.  Does anyone know if it would be worth troliing the shallows for browns or are most in the tribs now?  I want to stay close to shore in case of boat trouble or anything

If you can safely get out it is definitely worth it.  Not all browns run the tribs, a fair percentage of them stay in the lake year round and spawn on the shoals.

I would go a bit different. In spring ,the shallow water along the shore is usually a bit warmer,but that is not neccessarily true for this time of year.

You will find 38 degree water a little bit deeper,but you must be close to a creek where there is often some warmer water as well.

In my experience it is best in about 40 feet of water cutting through a scum line. While trolling for browns you will probably end up catching smallmouth and lakers as well.

Are there ramps with lake access open in the winter? the Genny?

The genny and sandy creek is usually open as long as its not horribly cold outside

Take some salt as icy ramps will mess up your day.

They fish the fingerlakes all winter.   Kitty litter , salt and chains are a plus as the ramp will get ice covered from pulling out the trailers.

Sometimes it helps to carry a bunch of small bags of sand in the back for both weight and to use for traction if needed.

If you have an aluminum boat, the road salt may eat it up. Wash it good when you get home or watch it corrode.

Watch out for Ice and garbage in the water.   With all the water getting pushed out the river and creeks it can make for an adventure.   Good luck.
