Canandaigua 9/21

Recommended Posts

I can probably guess.....zip....I've tried there a bunch of times thinking the crappies might be in there but have only caught a sunfish or two and one bass and that was in the open water. For some reason the majority of fish don't seem to occupy that area (or at least not when I have fished it over the years I gave up on it).

Did you do anything at Onanda yesterday Tim?

I got 2 really really small lakers in about 130ft on the bottom. I had tips out but no takers. Maybe if the ice holds I'll bring the kids and blanked the area with tips this weekend. Lol

Getting desperate for nice lakers!

I hear ya. Just be real careful around that creek area with the warm temps tomorrow who knows what might be going ion under the ice in that area for days afterward regardless of the temp that day. That is quite an ice jam out front of there. Good luck if you go. I may myself if I get feeling better anytime soon...there are some big ones in there so persistence may pay off for you...be great if the kids could get some....Les

I can second that benson. It was nice to have you out their with all the ice cracking. There is a rift coming straight off the point, perhaps the north east wind was pushing the ice over onto itself. It became increasingly noisy as it got closer to dusk.I felt a shudder of ice right under my feet at one point.

I was thinking about going to Lake O solo this morning but my wife said " why don't you fish out here and I can go along". Of course I said "yes" (for a whole lot of reasons). We got a late start and were on the water about 10 AM (quit at 4PM) . I used 2 downriggers cheated and a 300 copper trolling first the east side down to Pelican Point then across by Wegman's  and down the west side. Caught a total of 7 lakers despite fishing for rainbows. None was over 4 pounds. The interesting thing to me

    • Headed out Saturday - Canandaigua or Cayuga?

Gonna head out by myself with 2 dipsy rods Sat morning - I haven't fished either lake on the weekend before - would launch out of South end Canandaigua or Deans cove Cayuga. Which would you prefer on a Sat? Only fished Cayuga once and it was very slow for us.

    • Canandaigua has been decent

Last 3 times out we've hit Canandaigua twice and Cayuga once.  Trolling dipsys at both lakes, Canandaigua has produced 7 lake trout in both trips, almost all on copper backed michigan stingers in 40-50' down. Cayuga only produced one laker with a flasher fly. Still very new to trolling, so it's a learning in progress. I tried running one line at 45' down and another at 100' down ( deeper with a spin doctor and lake trout fly ) - bumped bottom and lost my spin doctor and fly. Damnit. Hi

Fished Canandaigua for about 5 hrs  on the south end. Not one hit. weeds and fleas were terrible could not get out of them. I had to clean lines constantly. it was the worst I have ever seen Canandaigua. the fleas were even all over my wire lines.

    • Trolling in Canandaigua - New

Hey all , I have been wanting to start trolling a bit - tried going to Ontario this morning, but the water was a bit too rough for me at 100 FOW in my 16' Aluminum. Bummer, I wanted to try for salmon and trout. I fish Conesus alot for bass/pike/tigers, but have never tried Canandaigua. If I wanted to troll for trout, I assume I could use my size 1 dipsys? What kind of gear are you using out there as far as rods and reels? Besides my spinning setups (3000s and 4000s) the only bait
