How much ice is still on Canandaigua?

Recommended Posts

The NOAA coast watch satellite pics show the lake still iced in on 4/2. Since then the satellite view has been obscured with clouds. We should have a good pic later today given today's lack of cloud cover.

Mike I actually went down to the north end to give you a better idea of "on the ground" data. Pictures speak volumes....it is anyone's guess right now and dependent on wind direction and speed and perhaps rain conditions. It is possible that some docks may be taken out by the ice when this stuff moves despite the "bubblers" etc.

Here is a visual "tour" of the north end from Wyffels Road (about 3 miles out on west side north end side to Kershaw Park at the extreme north end including the launch ramp and pier areas:

Yes it seems to be down a bit and that is a good thing right now. It will be interesting to see how bad this ice jams up in the outlet though. Hopefully things will work out OK and there won't be excessive damage but at this point who knows....

The south end of Canandaigua is ice free. There is ice from just north of Vine Valley until almost the shallows on the north end.

The lake is high and only about one foot lower than the parking lot at Woodville Launch. DEC hasn't put the docks in yet, so launching would difficult (depending on the wind and the size of your rig). At least with the high water one's prop should be safe......

I just went by the launch ramp and there are 4 trailers there with no sign of the boats so I'm assuming all is well out there. The south end is clear of ice as well. I would still be careful out there and stay on the lookout for possible "ice bergs".  Good luck toany of you guys that get out.

Fished outta woodville tonight, launched at five. Only fish we marked were deep, felt good to be in the boat and everything ran like it was supposed to. Temp out deep was 34.5, probably shoulda stayed shallow and went after crappie but I had to scratch the trolling itch.
