I am in the market for a fish finder. Sounds like a lot of guys love their furuno 587. I am not set on buying a furuno or a furuno 587 so if there are other suggestions, I would love to hear them. I mostly fish lake erie but on occasions make it to lake ontario. Most of my fishing is trolling. It will be put on a 94 sportcraft 232 fishmaster. I notice their are a lot of tranducer options. Is there a transom mounted transducer that you can get the most out of the machine. From what I have read it that your not going to get the most out of the ff is you go with the a cheap transducer. Kinda like puttil slicks on a truck. Any info would be great.

Hodges Marine has the best deal on the Furuno 587V  $1,122.15  You can get a B60 600w transducer Thruhull transducer for just under $170.  $1,300.00 for everything shipped.  Also, Furuno is now offering a $100 mail in rebate.  I have been thinking  about this setup myself.

IMO, I  would stay away from the transom mount transducer and opt for a thru hull transducer

The other option I have been tossing around is getting the Lowrance Sonar Hub for my HDS10GEN2 with a B150M Chirp transducer.

Good luck

Got my Furuno from Hodges Marine a few years back... good customer service. They will buy your old used electronics if you don't want to sell them online yourself.  Reasonable shipping rates and  no sales tax !!
