The last electric shift 125 johnson outboards were made in 1972.

Also the HP rating was taken at the drive shaft,not the propeller, which effectively leaves you with around 110 horse at the propeller.

It is a very well built trustworthy engine.

Those oler Johnson motors were work horses, my uncle had one on a older tri hull. One night he docked the boat and it gave one hell of a storm, wind blew all night and it poured for hours, next morning the boat was under 3 foot of water. Dad and Skip hooked a come a long to a tree and I got the dumb end, hooking the cable to the boat. Long story short is they winched the boat out of the water. Dad and Skip tore the motor down blew and wiped everything dry, put it back together new fuel and lower end oil and she fired right up. To this day my other uncle has that very same engine on his boat which we replaced the older 3 cylinder force with this mid 70's Johnson motor, which has better power and better fuel consumption than the 125 force.
