Down rigger weights and color

Recommended Posts

I have heard this question asked many times and still don't understand why it's asked. Kings and Coho are not boat shy let alone down rigger weight colors. When salmon fishing with a 6' to 12' set back how can color come into play at all  from a weight. Our best Coho fishing is in the prop wash ,

Out west love the 15lb and up weights...pipe weights are a big thing for two reasons less blow back and hard to hang up on bottom.

The color aspect is open to personal preference like a lot of things in this sport but Lucas is right about the 10 lb limit on the 10A's to be safe with the motors.

That would depend on the down rigger. Cannon is good for 20Lbs

He indicated 10A's (older models) and they have a 10 lb max the newer model 10 have a heavier duty and substantially faster motor

a cannon 10a will not handle a 20lb weight. when ever possible use an 8lb or 10lb a 12lb will kill your motor. dont worry what color your downrigger ball is. worry more about it being in the right zone.
