Wire vs power pro

I am just getting familiar with Dipsy diver fishing. I used Power Pro last summer instead of wire. I would like to know the pros and cons if anybody has suggestions please fire away thank you

Power Pro works fine untill the fleas show up, after that it's a nightmare removing them from the braid. Wire is much easier to remove the fleas, just reel up to the tip and most fall right off. You will need to add twilly tips to your diver rods to prevent the ss wire from cutting into the eyes.

Fleas. That's the main issue. Wire cuts through them and they accumulate bad on braid.

Wire also has a humm cutting through the water that supposedly attracts fish.

Either a twilli tip on the rod for wire or a good quality roller tip. The reason I say "good quality" is that if it is a cheap one with the sides made from aluminum the wire can cut through the sides despite the roller itself OK being made from hardened stainless.  Although it is primarily a personal preference I much prefer wire over braid although I use both because of the fleas but also because I think it cuts through the water better. On the possible downside is the potential for kinking of the wire but it can be solved by cutting that section out and with a 1,000 feet it is usually no big deal with small amounts. If I were a little more anal I would mention that it might throw your line counter off slightly but I don't trust them completely in the first place Braid is easier than wire f you are using boards for the dipseys.

I have 2 wire setups and 2 braid. I use both year round the key is to have large diameter braid (50lbs. is what mine are) and the fleas will be minimal. I have had fleas build up on wire dipsy and riggers they have been so thick. If they are that thick nothing stands a chance.

Isn't that the truth... and the more vertical the lines the heavier the fleas accumulate. When you have trouble getting your downrigger wire to come through you know it's a problem

Yeah I tried to flick the wire but it doesn't work.

Switched from wire to braid last year and am happy so far . Wire is a pain and the braid is much more user friendly .

Fireline fused original vs fleas....Fireline wins more.

If you get a kink its history The braid seems to be easier to care for. I've used wire for many years. Time to try something different.

Are you using single strand or multi strand like 7 or 19? If I get a kink it generally doesn't break for me but always happens in the first foot so I just cut off that small piece and reterminate. It's no big deal. I have wire setups that are going into their 5th year.

19 strand Wire is great. Cut the 12-18" off that kinks once or twice a year and keep fishing. I have 4 wire setups that are 6 years old and still have 990' or more on them. With $40-50 worth of gear attached on the business end, I'm a lot more comfortable with wire than braid.

Wire and 19 strand. I found 7 strand to be terrible. (Just my opinion)

To me it isn't an "either or" situation they both have their place in the arsenal so I use both.

Keep it tight and cut off the end by about 8-10 ft every so often and you won't have any problems.
