GO EASY / REEL HAPPY / SEA-IV -- 2016

Recommended Posts

Im not out in what you would call rough, but a pontoon in whitecaps will rock hard on the turns. Plenty of opportunities to have a problem. I let everyone run lines and handle gear after a lesson or two. Just tried pipe insulation on a spin rod and anything throws off the balance so bad its not gonna be worth it. Im gonna try a few on trolling set ups though.

Trolling should be fine just keep it further towards the fore grip so your line doesn't get into the zip ties. I forget your on a pontoon, my deep vee has some tall gunnels so I don't get too concerned about it. I used to let the green guys set lines but got too many tangles. I just set the auto pilot and let my veteran fishing buddy set one side while I set the other. Salmon and trout is a little harder setting up because certain lines have to be set first or it makes it very difficult. Edited by Chas0218

Quick evening Maiden Voyage on the Reel Happy with 2 buddies today. Felt great to be back on the water. Trolled Henderson and got both dudes a nice Brown to start the season. Both came on a 3 color core, 1 on a crush gator spoon, the other on one of my other buddy's spoons (Dtmasportsman) in silver and green.

Also hooked into a monster Pike but we were deadlocked in battle and literally could not gain on him while trolling with big boards out and 9 lines in the water. We couldn't come to a stop so had to keep going at the slowest speed we could. Eventually came unglued so let the fish stories begin. Great start to the season!

Been rough fishing on the north east end lately. Water is stupid clear everywhere and no bait found yet. Never seen such blank screens and poor fishing. Plucked a laker today and that was it. The photo of the water is 25' deep in the Lake right in front of Stony Creek. Like an aquarium everywhere you go out there.

Been fishing the same area the past two weekends and had similar results.  Last weekend caught bass, walleyes, pike, and lakers, but no browns.  Skipped this past saturday, trolled sunday AM south looking for browns from the cut to stony creek, with no one home.  Think I may have followed you in yesterday?  Water temps were cold yesterday and crazy clear.  Oh well, gonna give a go next weekend as well.

With the north winds guys, you area will be in the ice box!! We have had the same thing down here when the south winds blow all our warm water north. The farther south you go, the warmer the water gets. If the wind shifts, the you will get some water and the temps back. Might be better to hang in the harbor looking for some trout along the south shore, just a thought.

Hey Rich - Yea the N and NE winds are brutal up there.  We had temps of 43-46.5 in the lake side around Stony but couldn't find any fish wanting to play in 5-25 fow.  Have fished Henderson and mouth of BRB seeing temps of 46-51 but still a lack of fish (compared to the last 3 years).  I've caught a few browns in Henderson this year but have tried since and came up empty.  Fishing all around the last 2 weeks hasn't been great in our area.  Can only get better.

Took out the Sea-IV today. Hit 40-60' contours from the lighthouse and south. Went 4 for 8 all Lake Trout on spoons. 3,4,5,6 color on boards on each side of the boat. Riggers weren't touched. Got to break out my fish flags today.

Equipped the boats with a handful of GoPro Hero 4's for this season to better capture the memories and good times on the water.  Here's my first crack at a video edit from Saturday's 1/2 day trip with some new Software (Power Director 14).  I have A LOT of time to spend getting to learn this program and probably will never master it.  Don't be too harsh on the video... it's my first one and I only spent 1 1/2 hours tonight both learning the Software and putting this together. I'll get better.

It's uploaded in HD so up the quality on the YouTube video settings if you'd like! Enjoy - more to come this season!  Can't wait for the Walleye opener next weekend!  Good luck to all!

Few more pics... went North and got the staredown from Canadian authorities for a few hours as we fished no closer than 1 mile from the border... bugs were awful. Some Pig Lakers out there. Lost 2 others 1 felt like a teenage King. Mag Dipsey on 1 setting out 130-150 with spinny/fly and short coppers and a 10 color with spoons did the damage.
