Re painting old stingers

What is the best paint and best method to re-paint old stinger spoons or for that matter stingers that have caught two fish and no longer have any paint. I am starting to accumulate quite a few and would like to make good use of them. Thanks for any help.

I would contact Finger Lakes Tackle and see if they would paint your lures. I think he has in the past.

I use Krylon paint and paint them up.  They make all sorts of colors in Krylon.  It stays on better than stingers paint jobs too.

Also die cuts are fun to mix and match and hold up well.

I do not clear coat them.  The finish lasts longer than Stingers so I'm happy with it.

The key thing in painting spoons that still have a glossy finish left on them is to use a good undercoat that will help the paint adhere to the metal. The clearcoat can also help after the main coat to keep it from peeling etc.

 I rough up the finish with really fine sand paper.

Did anyone ever try a shell casing tumbler ?

It works great for polishing with the walnut shells Ed but for painting you need just the opposite....roughed up surface

I was thinking clean surface.......Bob told me one time but had no way to prove it that MS put crap on there spoons so the paint didn't stick too good.......ones he re-painted did not

hold the paint....

Just take those bad stingers, soak em in acetone for a day, and the paint will fall right off of them...

Anyone ever use an air brush to repaint their spoons? How bad is the learning curve? Are they expensive?
