Night crawlers for trout

Recommended Posts

Minnows are best for trout. Worms are good when they are slowly swimming in the water. A glob of worms jammed on a hook is unnatural but works for bull heads and sunfish. The minnow should also be swimming except for perch where a minnow laying on the bottom in the mud is best.

When the water is muddy, worms are the best in my opinion.  There's a great article in Lake Ontario Outdoors.  http://www.lakeontariooutdoors.com/stories/news-story/steelhead-fishing-with-worms

Good writing and great advice in that article.

For worms, the red worms are the best.  Off of piers in the lake, a fat night crawler fished under a bobber has taken my biggest ever steelhead.

Good luck!

A glob of worms is your problem, a single crawler hooked right is as natural as any minnow
