I personally thought your message read the way you intended Lester.  I felt it was an attempt to support WHLS, which is actually needed with all the negativity in this thread.

This has been entertaining, if nothing else  :)

The grand prize gets $2000 in cash and prizes and 1rst in the salmon division gets $150? I don't have any voicemails or miss calls on my phone. I paid my money so I deserve to get what I won no matter how small it is. You advertised all these sponsors and how we the fisherman would be 3000 times better off if we entered the derby than we would be if we didn't and that my friend is false.

Not much difference in the Orleans County Derby ($4000.00 grand prize $500 first). Or the Loc derby $25,000 for grand prize and $2,500 for first in the fall, $10,000 for grand prize in the summer and $1,000 for first. It's new. Give it a chance to grow and the payouts will get better . I entered figuring the payouts would be even less than that.

First off, Tacklebuster said "roughly 2000 in cash and merchandise". What's that, $200 cash plus some over inflated value on product? That is nothing like the Orleans county or LOC derbies!

They both publish EXACTLY what you win. I just looked at the LOC web page for the fall derby and they guarantee $66,300 in cash, $25,000 Grand Prize and $5000 (not $2500) for first place in the salmon.

Tacklebuster refuses to publish an accounting of who he paid what.

Comparing this "try and guess the payout" derby to the Orleans or LOC events is absurd.

It is a new event. How can he guarantee payouts when it is brand new? You guys are being a little harsh in the guy. I compared the percentages. Figure out the percentage difference from the grand prizes to the first place prizes and he is close.

How can you figure percentages when you don't know what was paid out? Is this the same math Tacklebuster used to come up with the 3000 percent better if you joined today?

He has made it rough on himself, we aren't. Posting a link to his leaderboard showed us nothing. All we wanted to see was what was paid out in cash and sponsor packs or merchandise. That's all.

If he wants us to sign up and tells us the prizes will be based on the number of entries and then refuses to tell us what that number was what are we supposed to think? How can we make an informed decision moving forward? He also gets on here and told Lester to "be careful". That almost sounded like a threat and that was directed towards a guy who was sticking up for him!

The "roughly $2000" quote is also an unknown. How much of that was cash and how much was merchandise? Is it really closer to $1500? It is intentionally vague and how can you say the percentage is the same as the Orleans or the LOC Derbies?

I have seen enough to make a determination on whether I want to join in the future and the old saying "A fool and his money are soon parted" comes immediately to mind.

I heard about this thread last week but haven't read it until just now.

I cannot believe how many of you are so pissed off about this derby. I think Troy and Dawn are just trying to get something going in between LOC events and to drive a little business to their tackle shop in Sodus. I don't see anything wrong with that whatsoever.

Is this derby perfect?....no. But I can assure that they are not doing it to "rip anyone off". Do you really think they would risk their business and reputation to rip you off for $30? That is ridiculous. For them to have a prize pool of $3000 they would need 100 entrants. How could they know if they would get 20 or 200? Lots of people said that they would enter it. I said that I would enter it. I was not able to due to being out of town for much of it. Some of my friends in Sodus said they would enter it but didn't. They didn't enter it because they were out of town also. WHLS may have counted on many of us that said "yes" but backed out when it came time to pony up the $30. Maybe they were very optimistic about a big prize pool because many of us said that we were in originally. In either case, the derby wasn't designed to rip anyone off.

If anyone thinks they can run a better derby then get a website and do it. Otherwise, quit your ****ing and go fishing :)

Fishing derbies are nice, but I sometimes wonder about all the prize money and the competition it causes. I like the family friendly derbies like the triple crown derby on the east end, because, win or loose, the gathering of all fishermen ,the food, and the friendly competition makes for a joyous community event and people go home ,win or loose, with a satisfied feeling ,having broken bread with friends and shared experiences.

If you want to gamble and win money, there always is the casino.

We have a couple derby's down here on Ohio waters of Erie, payback is dependent on number of entries, both derbies have a entry cut off so everyone knows at the cut off date what everyone is fishing for as far as prizes go and prizes are posted. The spring one does allow for one day 10.00 entries, spring derby is 50 a person, fall is 25.00 per person. The last two that were run paid a 10K grand prize.

Rosters are posted for both derbies and leaderboards are updated daily or close to daily.

I have no dog in this thread but participant lists (entries) and payback schedule should be posted, transparency is important with all events that require an entry and have paid spots to the participants.

Ok so I will say that I did receive a $100 gift certificate to dreamweaver in the mail a couple days ago. If you put that with the $150 I got for 1rst place in the salmon derby (2nd overall) it's not a bad prize. I'm not sure how to redeem the certificate cause it's just a piece of paper with no instructions on it but I'm sure I'll figure it out.

Thanks for putting this together Troy. We won the grand prize and steely and we're thrilled with the prizes. I didn't realize hot much meat was there until we broke it down to freeze. 72 packs should last us the season. Playing hookey will be in every event you put together! Glad to see you got a weigh station on the west

end...much more convenient for us. Hopefully we'll put a couple more fish on the board in the next round! BTW I simply called my order in to Dreamweaver to redeem certificate.

Looks like Screwy Louies is out for weigh in.  NO BIG LOSS.  Simply run to Warren's or All Season to weigh in. Seems we have a LITTLE snake in the grass attempting to sabotage our event. That is NOT going to happen. We are just getting started. Sign up now at any of the other participating registration stations and be ready to win some cash and merchandise.

FISH ON!!!!!!!!!!!
