Nice fishmounter. I don't know much about taxidermy or who's who around here, but I'm sorry to say everything I've seen in this thread from Fishwish has been somewhat horrific. What is her problem with doing fins properly????

Trout and salmon fins do not dry well. They are mostly cartilage and membrane and shrink horribly when dried. The only proper way to do them is mold and cast them. However, to do so is expensive and time consuming and most taxidermists take the easier, cheaper way out.

they great cove one looks good but that atlantic

Believe me that pic was not put up to steer the OP towards going to Fish Wish. I'm having a 13.10 Atlantic done now (obviously not by her) and if it comes out half that bad I'm going to freak.

IMO ,and not to discourage the business .

The best mount is to take many a picture , pick out the best and enlarge it , frame it and hang it on the wall .

I have a bunch of poster size wildlife and outdoor scenery in my house .

There are just to many bad things that can happen with a reproduction

Paul,

THAT was my next question too, lol.

The only thing that can go wrong with a mount, either skin or replica is putting it in inexperienced or  UN-capable hands IMO.

I think you answered the question right here , no ?

some of the mounts I have seen here are gorgeous, some not so and they were done by those who thought from experiences.

How do you really know until its returned if you will be satisfied.

All I'm saying is I prefer a photo mount over a repo(skin included).

There is no shop that can recreate it the exact same and put a background from the experience .
