Hard to get them to stick.

What kind of things can I try to keep the salmon buttoned up. Had several on today on my wire dipseys and just could not land them. My hooks are very sharp made sure of that. Any help would be great. Thank you

Whole lot of possibilities but keep in mind that some of the fish will be hitting out of aggression rather than a pure feeding response and sometimes they just don't get ahold of the hook itself or they may even hit the attractor rather than the fly or spoon. Additionally as time rolls on the mature kings mouths harden up so penetration of the hook may suffer so you can be doing everything right and still come away without a fish

get ride of any small treble hooks and install single hooks also softer tipped rods help make sure strike drag is not to heavy and keep boat speed the same until after striking the fish if its rough out your going to loss more good luck .lost a screamer yesterday

Sometimes it's just the way it goes. If you're running F/F set-ups tighten them drags down a little on the dipseys for the initial strike.

I've mentioned this on another thread but I eliminated my problem with fish popping off when I eliminated snubbers.

 

And, I just probably jinxed myself.

i like braid for a main line less stretch seems to stick them better when they hit the release and comes tight much quicker then mono

No snubber, tight release, semi tight drag. About all you can do other than good sharp hooks

As said before fish that are getting ready to stage aren't feeding they're just aggressive! Had the same thing happen to me & when I checked the meat rig I could see all the teeth marks were on the side not near the hook. That's fishing!
