2016 duck season

Recommended Posts

My buddy and I made it back out to the pond . Lots of birds in the area still , so we tried to get a limit of greenheads and came up short. Worked lots of singles . Hope they stay around.post-160085-14789935793935_thumb.jpg

Had a great Goose hunt this a.m. First flock that came in, blam, blam, blam. Done. My partner got 2 and shortly thereafter got his 3rd. Then, we laid there as they rained down on us. What a show!

Got out to the swamp this a.m , man did them birds decoy mint . 1 was so close going to the left side of the spread i took the head clean off. Couldn't get a odd duck for my full limit, but what a day. Had a flock of 50 mallards ball in hard . It's nice when u see the birds ignore everyone else and just drop in to say hi !!!! What a kick a$$ season so far. post-160085-14806184855472_thumb.jpg

Not a lot of birds around on the SLR or Eastern end of the Lake. Hunted near Gallo Island yesterday and only got 3 buffies, 1 gadwall, and 1 whistler. Saw mallards, broadbills, whistlers, Oldsquaws, swans, gees and gadwall but not in any great numbers. Also checked out around Fox and Grenadier Islands and no big rafts seen. Hope some birds move in before season ends.

Kevin J Legg. That's a lot of driving. Were you in gill harbor on Sunday? I venture out there from time to time. It would be nice to know the other guys that do in case something goes south.

Ended my NE duck season today with a three man limit of whistlers and bufflehead on the big lake. Lots of fun and fast decoy action. Now a short holiday break and hopefully more hunting in Canada and Western NY.

I heard it was slow going on the river weeks prior to , but I couldnt make it up.

I believe it was a slow fall on the SLR. Seemed to be more birds on the big lake but still no big numbers. This snow and cold will likely have birds on the move. Saw some snow geese movement last week. Hopefully will get some late season hunting in.

I saw them the last weekend big time on the river. Then the season ended.... Funny how that works. I keep saying I am going to get my Canadian stuff ready but never do anything about it . they were in one spot. A few miles away it was like a ghost town

Merry Christmas fellow wing shooters !!!! Time to scout around for the opener this coming weekend . Good amount of Lake ducks rafted up on the Big O . Time to look for some open holes in the small back water for some mallards.
