Out of the little salmon.

Out of the little salmon.

Last week we fished Olcot and with the cold water we had there we decided that the East end might be warmer ,so we fished Mexico Bay. The lake was strangely empty for this time of year. It is probably a result of of the state launch being closed. (for no good reason!) The NYS parks authority could very easily have brought in some lumber to connect from shore to floating dock. It amazed me to see that nobody threw the barricade in the water and used it to walk to the floating docks. Once we were out in the bay we had between 59 and 60 degree nice green  water. So we set up in twenty feet but the browns were elsewhere. We went to north a bit and fished in about 40 to 70 feet with good results. one nice big fat brown trout and a bakers dozen of steelhead. It was classical fishing, running in clear and green water along a muddy slick line that meandered along the shore going in and out dependent on the constantly shifting wind direction. Orange and blue were the preferred colors. It was very nice to box out and it was very good to see big fat round bellies. Even the steelies that had come back out the river looked healthy. It seems that a benign winter makes all the difference.

Most likley they don't want the liabilty of someone coming in and parking on top of the steel high dock.  That corner of the steel dock would be hard on a boat hull.

Thanks for posting and glad to hear you had a good day out.

Although we all long to have our favorite waters to ourselves, not seeing boats this time year is pretty eerie. We have a phenomenal fishery right on our doorstep and it makes you realize how fragile it really is!

I can't imagine how much money is being lost by all of the small businesses who depend on a three month season to make or break their year.
