Using black's downrigger release as stacker

Recommended Posts

You mean roemer releases? These clip to the rigger cable then your line goes in the trigger. I use the pinch pads with cheaters instead of stacking. Way easier and doesn't limit the number of poles I can run. If fishing 2 guys I run 2 riggers with cheaters, 2 dipsys and 2 coppers. If by myself I'll run 1 rigger with cheaters (2 usually), 1 dipsy and 1 copper.

Your going to have to remove your terminal end of your rigger wire whether it's a haywire twist or a cannon type deal. Cut the wire loop off  the release and run the cable through where the wire loop was then redo your terminal end back to the way you had it. Now the release is free floating on the wire, I use a piece of heavy fishing line tied and taped behind the boom roller, then I put a swivele on the end which I hook into the blacks release let out how much cable to where I want the release, open the release to free it from the so called holder, then I jam a toothpick in to pinch the cable in place. Then rig up your other pole, really jam the toothpick so you can get a nice bend in the rod. The longer the toothpick is is the water the tighter it gets. Sounds like it's a lot but it's not really.

I have these now..jist didn't know if I can use somehow as a stacker.. love these as my main release

Those style you can not. No way to wind those up into the rigger spool. I would recommend the roemers I posted or run cheaters. You really can't go wrong with cheaters, less likely to tangle and just as productive. You can't run as long of leads with cheaters as stacked rods but no need when fishing deep and using flouro.

In order to stack you need something that is removable on the rigger line. The roemer or chamberlain releases would allow you to do that.

If you're just looking to change out your release then use this video and style knot for re-terminating your rigger cable to your release. I use this knot with my rigger line and never had a break off on wire that is 7 years old. Key is to not kink the wire.

Here is a link to all the videos in case that doesn't work. Take a look at the "Rigging a Cheater" video. There are 2 types a sliding and fixed cheater. I think this will also do the job for you.

Yeah, so do the blacks been using this method for years. They slide right down to the ball. When the rigger is in the up mode just tap the release the cable pulls the toothpick right out, so simple!! Release falls down to the weight.

If you select the right strength rubber bands you'll be in business....if slip put a small split on just above
