Line Counters that work

Recommended Posts

Over the years I've owned and used them all, some are better than others. But i learned you get what you pay for, some reels will only last a year or two if you fish a lot. You can buy a cheaper reel and just plan on replacing it every couple years or buy a higher end reel, take good care of it, reel cover, keep it oiled, etc. and it will last for years. I know they are expensive but you don't have to buy them all at once. Most of my tekota reels have the green line counter numbers which they haven't made for a numbers of years and they all still work perfectly.

Most are about the same if your spending the same money. In other words, you pretty much get what you pay for. I'm not saying you need to spend the kids collage fund to buy reels, hell most of mine are a mix match I have several different kinds and I find if you take care of your equipment it will last a good while. I do reel maintenance to mine 2X a year during season and again in the off season. Some of my equipment is 20 years old or better. But it works flawlessly or it gets replaced. Most guys I know get there equipment out 3 days before they plan to use it and find all sorts of things wrong with it and blame the manufacture. I suggest a little more preventive maintenance. Goes a long way.
