Spinning rod and reel for Kings

Recommended Posts

A stradic 4000 is a great reel. I started out witha Cabelas 9 ft heavy power salmon rod for $99 4 years ago. This year I decided to try an upgrade and bought a St Croix Wild river 9ft heavy power salmon rod for $199. No difference in my opinion, I just spent an extra $100 for the St Croix name.

I like the 9ft rod for casting on piers, but everybody has their own preference. I also like #20 power pro.

Sounds like a good setup.

I use a 9'6" ML St Croix with a Pflueger President 35 size and 10-14# Fireline to a 20 fluoro leader. (Same rod I use for steelhead with a reel change)

I personally get too many wind knots and tangles with regular braid like power pro and try to never use mono on a spinning reel anymore due to line twist. I do also have a 9'6" casting rod with straight 15# mono that I use though.

Canyon Reels have great spinning reels for a lot less bucks , I've been using salt n fresh no issues to date irs been two years !

I also own Stradics, Stella's n Saragosa's but these Canyon spin reels are smoother offer real, smooth drags especially with lite line use !

I use their 2000 for Salmon n Steelhead more then you will ever need drag wise !
