My Hoop System for Winter Boat covering.

I constructed a reusuable hoop system for covering my 22' boat this year. It's working great so far
1. Get 3/4 inch PVC conduit. 10 feet long. Get enough to make a hoop each 12 inches along the gunwales.
2. Get enough tees for each end of the hoop.
3. Make a section of PVC, to attach to each top of the gunwale with a tee every 12 inches.
4. Install the side pieces.
5. Install one end of the hoop PVC into a tee, and bend it in to a hoop, and insert the other end into the opposite tee
6 run a piece of PVC along the top of the hoops. Drill a hole through this piece, and each hoop, and install a tie wrap. This holds the 12 inch spacing.

That’s pretty cool, I built a A frame on my transom board and made it high enough to clear my windshield then a built a smaller A frame that sits on the bow, then a 14’ 2x6 spans between the two a frames. It’s a larger version of a sawhorses and I go to Harbor freight and get the silver tarps 20’by14’ that’s what I cover it with then I buy those round elastic ties and I put one on every eyelet along the sides and wrap the transom and the bow. The ties aren’t the greatest but for $10 for all that I need they last a winter and the summer when I’m not using the boat she’s covered. So every other year it cost me $10 for the straps and like $20 for the tarps ever 3 years and I painted the horses and put conveyer belt pieces on the legs of the horses so they don’t leave marks on the boat. One thing I didn’t figure on was when the tarp gets pressure on from the straps the rubber pieces I put on the horses, don’t slide at all there like glued in place, just one of the deals that worked for me, not against me. What you got going on is pretty damn clever also!! Nice job, thanks for sharing!!!

I like your hoop system. It looks very roomy in there. All you need is some light and an electric heater. Now you have  a small utility room for fixing things in the boat or just day dreaming about next season.

If only you could have posted it a month ago. That would have given me time to be a copycat.

Very well thought out. Thanks for posting. This is always an issue for me each year....to know what to do. This year I built a frame out of 4x4 posts. Your idea keeps the snow out better than what I have.

Very cool idea, thanks for sharing!

I made a frame system out of 2x4's this year for my 22ft boat. I draped a 20'x30' tarp over it and it is working great so far. The rear legs are 8' tall, and the leg on the bow is about 5' tall. The top piece is a 10' 2x4 and two 8' 2x4's. We've had about 6ft of snow already this month and wind gusts over 40mph and the tarp is doing great.

I use 4x4 posts. I put one in the stern inside a cement post holder and use decking straps to make a cradle at the top. I run 4x4 from this post forward and it rests on a blanket on my hardtop. I do the same for the bow with a another post holder and run the 4x4 back towards the stern.

Due to my particular setup (walk around cuddy) I found that this has been the most stable. I live just north of Syracuse and we see a lot of snow and this has never let me down.
