Crazy Yankee Sportfishing - 3rd Lake Ontario trip for 2018

Recommended Posts

The question for today was.....Where'd the big ones go!?!?!?

Fished Rochester today. Good water came and went. Action wasn't lacking, but size was. Today's program consisted of Bay Rat Lures Short Shallow and S3 run 75' behind Off Shore Tackle Company OR-12 inline boards. Best colors were My Secret, Emerald Shiner, Ayu, Coho Crusher, and BT Candy. Our Cannon Downriggers and Fishing - Chinook Diver-Stainless Steel Troll Fishing Divers were pulling Team Dreamweaver Super Slim spoons in Crazy ****, Coyote, Caramel Dolphin, and Glow Frog.

Yankee how do like running the inline boards?  I have been completely converted to an inline board guy. Although we mostly fish Erie eyes with segmented cores. I love using them with rod trees on Ontario. I think we loose less fish using inline boards. I’d love to hear you’re opinion on this.

They are nice when you are running different sections of core or snap weights. For Brown Trout fishing we're seeing more tangles than we'd like. Gonna try to tweak some things this week to try to avoid tangles. FOr snap weights I love them.

It’s tough with shallow lines doesn’t give the fish a chance to clear inside lines unless he pulls straight back. Really need to separate boards. Running three boards lines is tough. Need to keep lines out same distance and let fish take board back before you retrieve. With floating baits you can’t move em down slack floats bait. With segmented cores or snap weights when you let out lines while a fish is on everything sinks. I like the inline boards the ease of fishing on set up is easier.

Easy way to solve the the tangle problem is use a release on the boards. Makes it very easy to change bait and bring fish in. I have ran up to 6 boards per side before with no problem. It's kinda like running big boards pop the release let it fall back and then bring it in. Use a rubber band on the back of it to keep it from sling all the way down. The small black offshore ones work good for flat lines up to 3 color core. After that I like the big Jon plunger ones up to 400 copper.

I agree with this ^^^. Sam's Pro releases are the best IMO. Release when I a fish strikes like a Blacks. Look them up, you won't be disappointed if you run in lines!

I jump between the big boards and inlines with the Sam's pro release, and a red OR- 16 release with the pin in the middle, off the back of the board.  Anglers Avenue has a video on how to rig the Sam's.  I hated inlines until I switched out to this rigging.

I just twist the line before i put the line in the back pin like you do with a blacks releases, that way when the line poops out if the front release you are still fishing the fish and not the board. Reel board in release and continue fighting fish. I'm use to running 6 boards at a time per side with maybe 1 tangle.
