Short Coppers vs LC

Recommended Posts

Aside from the extra breaking strength of 45lb copper vs 27lb LC, Is there any advantage to running a short copper like a 150 as opposed to a segmented LC rig of comparable depth capability?

Thanks

Mike

One is you only need 150 feet of copper, vs 225  feet or so of LC to achieve the same depth.  But be careful deploying in shallow water.  The 150 copper will hit bottom quickly.

Cooper is nice in that you don't need as much of it to achieve the same depth as LC but I find it a little harder to use as on some reels it can have a tendency to tangle on the reel where LC is more user friendly.

I agree with Salmonboy41, LC is a lot easier to deploy then copper.  However, I like the action and depth you get with copper.  Because of that I started using weighted steel wire from torpedo two years ago.  It is great and it out performs LC for the most part. LC still has it's days but weighted steel is one of my go to rigs on the finger lakes for sure.  Plenty of information on this site.  Take a look you won't be disappointed.

After a few tangles with leadcore, I prefer to untangle... errr use, copper.
