What are these and what will catch them?

It is always tempting to interpret any marks on the screen in terms of trout and salmon and we sometimes forget that a lot of other species inhabit the water and especially in shallower water such as shown on the finder. I have seen huge migrations of carp traveling across lakes from one side to the other, as well as large groups of suckers in shallower water. I'm sure that at least some of the time given the wide array of fish on Lake Ontario and the Niagara despite the large size of the  marks they could be many other species as well as salmon too. This thought is always in the back of my mind while trolling where I keep making passes through marks on the screen and can't get them to hit while shallow. There are also sturgeon of various sizes in the Niagara:smile:

I agree with the "probably" but the point was that you can never be totally sure of the exact species of any mark on the depth finder.
