This report courtesy of the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning. This report was posted on November 6, 2018.

Sunday, November 11 – Veteran’s Day, is a free fishing day in New York State. Anyone can fish the fresh waters with no fishing license required. All other freshwater fishing regulations still apply.

Oswego River report:

As the rain continues across the area, the water flow has been running between 11,000cfs and 15,000cfs over the last several days. This morning it is flowing at 13,800cfs. This flow makes some areas along the river difficult to fish but anglers are still finding some success. A few salmon are still being taken along with some nice steelhead, rainbows and a few brown trout.

Notice: The bridge to Leto Island is closed, and there are mandatory personal flotation device (PFD) zones on the river. For more information, view the Brookfield Varick Fish Safely Brochure at the link below. The Oswego Fire Department offers loaner life jackets at no charge through its “Loaner for Life” program. For more information contact the fire station, 35 E. Cayuga St., at 315-343-2161.
